Since this thread appears to be about forestays and staysails, I have a question also. I have a staysail on the boat. I also have the halyard for it, but on the deck instead of a solid point to attach it to, there is a track, like the track that you'd have for the spinnaker (which this boat is also rigged for) or one of the adjustments for the sheets on either side of the cabin. What is the purpose of being able to adjust the staysail distance from the headsail? Would I adjust it differently when flying a chute versus flying another headsail such as a genoa?
