The Perfect Storm

I have been told that the real sailboat that this movie is based on was a Pacific Seacraft 34. It was found after the storm, washed ashore on the east side of the Delmarva Peninsula. The owner as he was abandoning ship dropped his wallet in the cockpit, when the boat was found ashore the wallet was still there. Anyone have any further details? Is this all true?
