Cabin interior hatch fastenings

On my PSC 32 PH I have eight cabin interior hatches which rely on gravity to stay in place. All are normally overlain by seat cushions. I would like a more reliable method to keep them in place (for heavy weather).

The cabin sole hatches have hatch handle latches, which are excellent but expensive, and require much drilling/routing for installation. Barrel bolts, etc., are far cheaper, but would probably wear on the cushion bottom.

So what fastener, if any, do you use?

Re: Cabin interior hatch fastenings

I wonder if something like this:

Amazon.com: National Hardware V83-1/2 Half Turn Button, Zinc Plated, pack of 4: Hardware Amazon.com: National Hardware V83-1/2 Half Turn Button, Zinc Plated, pack of 4: Hardware

..might do.. lower profile than a barrel bolt. They are similar to the old wooden screen door latches we used to have way back when.

Thanks - that is smooth and low profile, though only has the strength of one screw. I'll see if I can find it with a less corrodable finish than zinc plating...

Re: Cabin interior hatch fastenings

I'm attaching photos of the factory-installed latches from JUNO (PSC 40--#46). They appear to involve no routing of either the wood on the locker cover or the fiberglass on the seat. They do sit up slightly above the surface, but so far (11 years) they haven't caused any abrasion to the cushion bottoms. I believe they are made by Perko and can be found in most marine catalogs.

Fair winds,

Excellent, Roger, I had not come across them:
Door buttons; Perko and Sea-Dog, various materials, with and without springs.
