Re: Cost of Espar Heating

The hardest part of the install is drilling bulkheads for the ducting. I broke my fibula on my right arm drilling with a cordless 18v makita, so consider adding that to the cost of the heater if you are doing it yourself... It is nice to press the button and a little beep as she turns on, and it is warm fast! The rest of the install was a piece of cake. Everything was included with the kit I bought. Replace the stainless screen around the glowplug every year, and thats about it. I keep a spare glow plug, and screen just in case.

Re: Cost of Espar Heating

Last year just before selling our sloop I replaced the Espar with a new D4A. Here in Alaska it cost about $2000, that included a new style thermostat/controller, thermal wrap for the exhaust, new SS exhaust. It did not include the ducting which was already installed. Installation was a snap, but as noted I didn't have to install any of the ducting.
