PYI PSS shaft seal bellows replacement on Crealock 37

Has anybody replaced their PSS shaft seal bellows? I assume that the procedure to pull the shaft coupler and then the bellows requires prop removal? Since I am starting on the project soon, I guess that it won't take me too long to find out, but any advice would be welcome.

You'll need to get the coupling off the shaft, remove the PYI collar and retract the shaft far enough to R&R the bellows.. whether the prop needs to come off depend in it's configuration and any interference with the rudder as far as creating enough space to do that.

Careful about any burrs on the keyslot/coupling area when you slide the collar off and back on; You'll want to replace the orings and set screws on the collar with new too.

I just installed a PSS shaft seal last year. I agree with everything that Faster said, but especially want to emphasize

Curious; how old is your PSS Shaft Seal? I have heard that they can last >10 years, even though the manufacturer warrants 6. Is it leaking?

Thanks for the replies.

Regarding the age of the shaft seal on my boat - at least 10 years, maybe 20+. My boat was built in 1989. I am the third owner (five years) and I am sure that the second owner (also five years) did absolutely nothing to the boat except pay moorage. Thus my guess is that owner No. 1 likely added the PPS around 1993, the same time that he added the Max-Prop. The currently installed bellows appears in good condition, actually - no leaking. Once I get it off I will be able to inspect it closer. PYI includes o-rings and setscrews with the replacement bellows.
