Ken,
Did you take any pics after you cleaned out the gelcoat? I would be interested in seeing what the area in the glass around the keel bolts looked like.

Sorry, I haven't scraped the gel coat off yet. I figured this was a better winter job, and didn't want to start on it during the season. If I do it this winter I'll take some pictures.

Did you relocate your bilge or set it up differently to get it to drain completely? I've got the same issue and if I redo the area, I'm going to find some way to lower the pump.

Re: Keel Bolt Questions from new owner

I havenít figured out how to level the bilge yet.* To be effective, the bilge would have to gently slope from aft to forward.* The problem is doing this without adversely affecting something else.* This could probably be done with glass, but I donít have any experience with that. *Another project for another day.* My immediate problem is fixing the mess the guy made when he re-gelcoated the area under the tank.* The first application cracked in several places.* I suspect it was applied too thick, got too hot, shrunk up and cracked.* His fix was to lay in some more gelcoat which also has some hairline cracks.* I donít want to just keep laying in gelcoat.* I think grinding out and fixing each crack is the best thing to do at this point.* *

Re: Keel Bolt Questions from new owner

Is your fuel tank aluminum? My 1992 PSC 34 is and if bilge water can complete the circuit with your SS keel bolts you may get pitting in the tank. I pulled my tank and had to have plates welded onto my tank. I then epoxied over the bolts in a way similar to what you show in your photos. I think that's an excellent way to prevent a bimetal reaction.

Re: Keel Bolt Questions from new owner

Thanks Bob. The current plan is to cut off the extra threads so there is no contact and apply gelcoat to the tops. Then I get to fix all the cracks the installer left behind. However, the end is in sight. The launch day is next Wednesday.
