Autohelm for P36-2 1985

1 Attachment(s)
Hello all!
I've just bought a P36-2 and am planning various things for winter fit out. One of which is a new autohelm - nothing was fitted before and I will be making some long distance short handed trips as soon as possible :)
So, I have decided on the new Raymarin Evolution (Type 1 linear drive) and am wondering whether to get a dedicated rudder post attachment or whether to fix the drive straight to the steering quadrant/disc.
Also, I'm undecided as to where exactly to place the drive mounting, since I'm going to need to glass something in, I'd like to ask if anyone else has a Type 1 drive on their Pearson 36-2? Pictures would be awesome...

Just wondering how you have made out. I purchased an 88 P31 two months ago and purchased an Evolution wheel pilot recently. I have not really done much to install it but I think the boat's liner may give me some problems. I'm disappointed to see you have not gotten one response.

Hey Ron
Well I've got as far as installing everything apart from the drive! Mine is a below decks drive, so we've got slightly different scenarios. Leading all the cabling from nav station through the heads and cockpit locker to the transom was fine, as well as getting cables from the instrument pod on the wheel pedestal connected. The stainless steel pipe that holds the instrument pod is directly above the aft cabin, so drilling through the base brings the cable out into the cabin and it can just go straight through the bulkhead to port which brings it out into the cockpit locker, where I have the ACU and course computer installed.
I've not needed to go behind the lining at any point.
I'll take some pics this weekend, but so far it's a pretty standard wiring project, not specifically related to an autopilot.

I have the previous generation Raymarine SPX-5 wheel pilot on my 2' shorter 28-2. What questions do you have about the install? I've read the installation instructions for the Evo and it's not very different.

The wheel pilot shouldn't require you to make any adjustments to your boat's liner.
