compression post

I just bought a Pearson 30, #217 and it has a bowed compression post.
Does anyone have any hints, instructions or help?
Thanks,
Glen

Glen - Here is a link to jacking up the compression post on a Pearson 35, it may help you with your project. http://www.pearson35.com/projects/ow.../Mast_Post.htm

I know it's the wrong model but I haven't seen any other replys and it may help get you started.

SailorMitch will become famous soon enough
Glen,

If you haven't already, join the Pearson email list here on Sailnet and ask your question there. Tons of P-30 owners on that list who will be full of info.

P30 Compression Post

My P30 is a 1977 #1017. I have the same problem. My post is teak and also serves as the door jamb for the head door. Another problem when the post was glassed to the hull in the bilge it was only glassed on three sides the forward portion was left exposed and over the years the bottom of the post has rotted. My thoughts are that the post will have to be replaced, maybe with another material (aluminium, SS) which presents a problem due to its shape.

I just bought my Pearson 30 (1977-#977) - it has some minor water damage/rotting at the foot - no bowing. When surveyed the guy recommended that in the off season I put a heat lamp to it to dry it out and apply epoxy to stem any damage - he said that would do it.
