reefing system

Hi ,

I have a Pearson 27 1987, and my question is:

I don't have a reefing system, what was the original reefing system?
Or can you suggest a good system that i can install on it?

If you have pictures or drawing it would be appreciated.

Thanks

It is a Jiffy single line system. I have a diagram somewhere. I will try and dig it up. If i don't do it in the next day don't hesitate to remind me. Or PM me with your email and i can send you a PDF of the manual that Phallo created.

As Jacky said, you probably were set up for a single line jiffy-reefing system. All depends on your sail - my new one is set up for two reef points so I have to (still) redo the reefing set up.

And I can't take credit for the manual, that was somebody else

purchasing a P27

By now you may have already made your decision, but if you haven't here is my 2 cents.
I just purchased my '87 P27 this year and love it. I very often single handle and this boat is easy to handle in 15-20 mph winds. It is very well built and structurally sound. Before purchasing I personally talked to several Pearson owner (various size boats) and all said that they would purchase another Pearson.
Mine is the tiller version but with the auto helm it is very easy to handle by one person. I have made several upgrades this year and plan on a few more next summer. But the boat is sound, upgrades are just for personal preference.
Good luck in you search. If you do decide on a Pearson I believe you'll be satisfied.

I owned Pearson 27 #165 and yes, I would own another. In fact, after six years of moving up to a Catalina 34 we sold outright and two years later my wife and I are looking at used Pearsons. Currently a 1960 Triton yawl is at the top of our list. Needs a LOT of work, but IMHO Pearson's are worth it. Otherwise, would a sane person put $25K of renovations into a $3K boat?

The worst feature of the P-27 is the v-berth. You either have a table or the v-berth. May not seem a biggie, but on a long cruise it gets to be a nuisance to create a bed every night and destroy a bed every morning. I'm 6'3" and I can't tell you how many times I bonked a knee or my head on that post-mounted table depending on where it was positioned for forward access.
