1973 Pearson 36?

Hi

Does anyone own or sail one of the early Pearson 36s? We're thinking of purchasing one and can find hardly any information after a comprehensive internet search.

I would greatly appreciate any input any owners have concerning this boat.

Thanks

Gary

Check out www.pearsoninfo.net. They have alot of good info there. I also own a 1972 Pearson 36 (hull #18) and was stuck in the same boat as you when i went to buy mine.

WE love ours....

We bought our Pearson 365 last January and we love the boat. We are outfitting it for Cruising with our family of four.

So what questions can I help you with?

Hi Gary,

I have a P-36 up for sale located in Branford, CT, just recently I was advised by a few brokers to reduce the asking price to $45,000.00. Great condition.

I sailed the "No More Rosy", a Pearson 36 for two years on the Chesapeake and feel you can't find a better boat.

SailorMitch will become famous soon enough
You'd be better off asking this question on the Sailnet Pearson email list. There are some P-36-1 owners on there. Also, the P-365 is an entirely different boat from the '70's vintage P-36.

I have owned a P36- 1973 for the last 10 years. She is an absolute delight to sail and very forgiving. I race her solo and always place. I sail her in the Great Lakes. I take out numerous newbees to sailing on her and and she has never disapointed them. She is stiff, yet yielding to the wind. She is large enough to entertain 8-10 people easily and just as easily to sail by yourself. She is a delight. There is one for sail at the Great Lakes Yacht Club in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan.

Be sure not to pay more than she can be insured for. Currently I have negotiated with Boat US to keep mine insured for $38K as much as they would prefer to only insure her for $28k. I had her decks painted 10 years ago, and the hull painted for the 2nd time 3 years ago. I replaced all the electronics and added a cockpit monted color GPS. I added refrigeration, changed the fiberglass center hatch to a larger flat lewmar hatch, replaced all the windows, upgraded the primary winch's to 38 Barient's. Have had the engine (atomic 4) overhauled, (not rebilt) twice in 10 years and added an elctronic ignition this year. Oh and the most important. I changed the folding prop to a 2 blade fixed plastic prop out of New Zealand 7 years ago. The best damn upgrade I did to her.

All the best,
jo

P-36 is a great boat, we have a 1973, it's still for sale reduced to $40,000.00. It's located in Branford, CT.
