Thanks very much. That's exactly the advice I was seeking. I think there is plenty of room for the larger footprint, so I'll just line up the centers and check to make sure nothing chaffes.

Glad to help. If you have more questions don't hesitate.

Its important the thrust gear alignment, ok?? they will suffer premature internal gear wear if this is not respected. I have a lot of friends with production boats that had winches installed new by manufacturer without paying attention to this and in 5 or 6 races the winches were gone.... specially Harkens. Thus I use Lewmar.

Yeah, that was something that I didn't know. I will definitely pay attention to that when I install them.

thanks Giulietta!

Giulietta, thanks for stessing the need to mount winches correctly!

Just the other day I had mounted new Lewmar 40's on my P30 only to read this thread afterwards. I must say that I was somewhat disconcerted that I had failed to read the instructions supplied with the winches. I was pleasantly suprised to find that one of the two was correctly mounted, what luck! The other, however required some correction. Thanks again Giulietta and thanks to everyone else that has offered insight, advice and experience on these boards, it is much appreciated!
