Rub Rail replacement

Has anyone replaced the rub rail? I just bought a Pearson 26 which had the rub rail torn off the bow. I was able to order one but have no experience putting the new one on. I know I'll need a heat gun and at least one other pair of hands. Is there anything else I should know?

Replacing rubrail

We also need to replace the rubrail on our 1977 Pearson 28. The boat's previous owner removed the original rubrail and replaced it with one made of wood, which looks classy but isn't sufficiently durable for the job. When he replaced the original, he not only removed the outer u-molding; he also removed the inner rigid under rail (The hull-to-deck joint on Pearsons are an outward-facing flange that sits beneath the rubrail. The outer edge of the flange is covered by the rigid under rail, which the u-molding fits over).

We have never replaced a rub rail before, so we welcome any advice on how to get the job done (including what sort of adhesives and fasteners to use).

I did not replace my rail but I did some repair work requiring taking off the rail on the whole port side. Once teh repair was complete, I was able to remount the old rub rail by tying a rolling hitch toward the aft end of the rub rail and streaching it out using a block and tackle arrangement. Then just press the rail on by rolling from the top. I helped put one on an Ensign but taht required three guys hauling on an end to streach it out. A B& T workis better. I hope this helps.
I now want to replace the rail. Where did you purch your new rail?
Thanks.

D & R

Call D & R Marine....they have all parts from Pearson or know where to get them. I believe Ruddy worked at Pearson. I got my rub rail for myP36-2 from them last year.

Just noticed that you are the owner of a P36-2. We're new owners (one year) and wanted contact with others who may be able to offer sage advice when it comes to 'problem solving', leak hunting, etc. If you're interested, we'd love to hear from you at dandg@portal.ca. Suzanne and Miles
