P30 spongy wall covering

The spongy material covering the back of the shelves above the settees and the walls in in the V-berth is really gross on my P30. Anyone rip this out and replace it with something? Perhaps just paint?

Ereuter.

You can do it reall simple..just buy the material you like to have covering that. Then buy 1/4' thick foam and glue it to the back of the material. Let it dry for a day.

Remove the old covering, trying to keep its shape for mould, and apply the new one, with glue.
Now you will have a padded look that is soft to the touch and looks good, and adds class to it. Its also light.

I did mine like that with leather imitation cloth (I don't know the name, but its like the one they use for car seats, that looks like leather). Please make sure you get the one with anti mildew treatment. I covered the sides of the beds and ceilings like that. real soft....

Yup, did that on our P30. At least all of it except the piece to starboard of the cooler.

The stuff behind the shelves was pretty easy, they just come out and reupholster. The vberth was a little more challenging.

I got my hands on some marine grade vinyl at a nearby overstock fabric store. I got really lucky, the color is indistuinguishable from the color of the interior headliner (which I also upholstered).

Anyway, in the vberth I took out the old stuff which was a big job getting the glue off. I think if I had to do it again I would go with a wire brush on a grinder.

First I installed a layer of automobile headliner foam. I attached this with aerosol contact cement. I tried regular contact cement but it didn't work as well. Next I installed the vinyl again using aerosol contact cement. If I had to do this part again I think I would attempt to combine the foam and vinyl first and then install them together.

Had to mask off EVERYTHING for the glue overspray. I'm pretty sure I lost a lot of brain cells on that project. Even with a box fan right over my head and a full face organic respirator, that aerosol contact cement in a vberth is a fierce buzz.
