Mast Slot "thingamajig"

MY mast slot key(?), stop(?), stay(?), keeper(?), or thingamajig is missing and I want another.

IF I can't accurately name it, how can I find it?

I'm looking for the part that closes the slot-opening where the sale slugs are put onto the mast. THIS part is kept in the closed position by 2 pins on the starboard side of the mast and is about 1-1/2 feet above the gooseneck.

BUT, I either want that particular part or I want to make a part that properly fits . . . I don't want a retro-fit conversion.

I hope someone knows the name of the part, or better yet knows where I can find a replacement.

Thanks,

John

I believe it is called a sail slide stop or keeper. What type of boat? Who manufactured the mast and or sail slide? Depending on the answers to these questions, you may be able to find a replacement someplace like Rigrite. If the company is still in business, such as Catalina, you may be able to order from the manufacturer.

Try west marine or any other marine store and ask for a sail track stop. These come in different types that slide into the mast track and tighten down thunb screw.

On my boat it is a simple pin that goes through the slot and holds the slugs in.

It's a 1974 Pearson 26

I think there were 3 masts used on the Pearsons that year.

This rig has the cutout(about 2"), and a "door" which pivots on a pull-pin.

A second pull-pin is inserted to "lock", the door in place, thus disallowing the slugs to fall out.

I can buy a conversion or juryrig a replacement . . . I'd rather have an original/matching part.

I had to fab my own. Had a guy in my marina make one out of aluminum, which didn't quite fit, and we "fixed" it with JB weld to more closely fit in the slot.
