Triton Mast Step
Greetings. I recently bought a Triton (#586) that needs some repair to the "mast beam", crosswise beam under the cabin trunk that the mast is supported by. This beam has dislodged about 1/4"(down), but not cracked. The previous owner (actually previous to the couple I bought it from) was using it as a club racer and the rig is quite tight. The mast is in a permanently launched sort of profile and I suspect this added pressure on the mast step caused the separation. Why not just use a backstay adjuster? Being that the couple sailed it for a year with no issues makes me wonder about the whole thing. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? I understand this mast beam issue is pretty common on older Triton's. I'll try to put up some pics but I'm in the Big Bend and the boat is still in St. Pete until the beginning of the year. Trying to determine how serious this is before sailing back from there to St. Marks.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

You might try posting this in the plastic classics forum; there are likely to be more Triton owners there: Plastic Classic Forum • Index page

Re: Triton Mast Step
Hi, Go to the Ariel Home Page site and search for this topic, They have literally exhausted this subject. These have been replaced with laminated products, solid wood, metal frames, etc. Wonderful group of boaters.
