new halyards for a P26

Just bought a 1980 P26. It's in pretty good shape, but needs new halyards. I'd like to replace the wire/rope halyards with all rope. I can see that the specs call for 3/8", but I want to be sure that the sheaves will accomodate rope. What have people's experiences been with making this change? Thanks

My experience, on a friends boat, is that you'll need to replace the sheeve. The one for the wire is too narrow for the rope.

I do recommend that you get a a low stretch rope, you'll notice the difference in sag less.

Lessons learned are opportunities earned.

I have a Pearson 26 and run all-rope halyards. I use 3/8" Sta-Set with no problem. Here is some good info on Pearson 26 boats.
