Charleston to St. Simons

We are taking an Ericson 27 from Charleston to SSI this coming weekend - any tips on tides, marinas, currents from those who have made the run?

Your talking a distance of about 220 miles which might take you as much as 5 days if your traveling down the ICW. I wouldn't travel much at night. The currents change often depending on what part of the ICW your on so your speeps will very greatly. With our C-26 we averaged 4 to 5 knots. My best advice would be Find the 5th edition of The Intracoastal Waterway Chartbook put out by International Marine/McGraw-Hill it will tell you were the good anchorages and marinas are.

Couple of tips, for future posts.

One, post in the proper forum. This should have been in General Discussion proper, instead of the Piracy Forum.

Second, on coastal trips, you should say whether you intend to go on the ICW or offshore, or offshore depending on weather.

You'll get more timely and helpful answers that way.

For myself, weather permitting I would definitely go from Charleston to Hilton Head Island offshore (actually, I'd do the whole thing offshore). You can stop at the north end of Hilton Head, or go on down to Savannah. Haven't run the ICW from Hilton Head to St Simons, so I don't really know much about it, other than what's in the guide books.
