Rather than open a new thread I'll put this here as it's political.
Today is election day in NSW. After 12 years in office the ruling Labor Party is seeking re-election. Our transport system is a shambles, the govt has spent so many years obsessed with balanced budgets or surpluses that spending on infrastructure has fallen dramatically in real terms, hospital waiting lists are at an all time high, as a result of the dought we are running out of water yet nothing has been done to address that issue, corruption is rampant and the Labor Party heavies spend more time feathering their own nests than looking after the concerns of the people.
You would figure that the Tory's would piss it in ? Nope. Every opinion poll suggests Labors back with only a small reduction in it's majority. Why ? Cos the Tory's are a complete shambles with no new ideas, just a load of hot air about the dreaded Laura Norda and a bunch of promises they could never afford to implement.
Most pundits predict that if Labor's majority is reduced it will the Greens and the Independents who will be the big winners.
The old saying that "oppositions don't win, governments lose" holds true but in this case while the govt deserves to be thrown out on it's ear you'd have to be dim to vote for the other mob. A former opposition leader speaking before Labor routed the Liberals in 1981 said that "a drovers dog could win this election". Sadly for them the Liberals in NSW don't even have an electable pooch to their name.

How far back did I mention, we most often have a choice between the lesser of two evils? If there was just some way to get the politicans out of politics......sigh.

Just shows that not all the dangerous snakes in Oz are in the Outback.

It's the urban vipers we all need to fear. Snake in the bush might kill you but in the city they'll suck out your soul.

Ragnar, it isn't that there is no solution, it's that you will never mobilize enough people behind it, to accomplish it. They tried with term limits, and it didn't work, and now, most of those that have been passed are being repealed or overridden. That's what the sigh was for, knowing there is a solution, but also knowing it isn't going to happen.

Fred Thompson had an interesting monologue the other day, while sitting in for Paul Harvey, on the radio. Commented on the fact that Mars seems to be getting warmer due to solar activity. Tied it in with global warming in a priceless way. You can find it over on National Review Online.
