I would go with ragnar statements but put it a little eliquently,

Every time a sailor goes out he knows that he can't control the wind (the markets). Nor can he control the tides (humanity at large). He is only able to control his reactions to these. His boat of choice is a vessel that harnesses both the wind and tide at times to propel him toward his distination, without distrubting the world around him more then he has to. He either develops the ability to see the subulties going on around him or perishes.

A power boater on the other hand knows he can't really control the winds(the markets) or the tides(humanity at large) but belives he can build and control a boat that overcomes these at will, with little hinderence. His boat of choice is a vessel that is powerful and fast, can push through the winid and tide. He has less concern for the subulties going on around him. Plans to get to his destination quickly and without thinking about what happens in his wake. Usually not developing the ability to see the subulties around him and often at a loss or unable to cope when the seas prove to much or his engine dies.

But thats why we have the coast guard.

Okay, here's another question to digest. In my experience, people tend to slide towards the right side of the scale as they age. (my mother-in-law will always be a democrat but I think the taxing is starting to bother her) Is there any truth to that? and if so, why? I tease my kids it's because of wisdom.

While I certainly have my doubts upon some people's grasp on reality, I can somehow, someway, express my thoughts without calling them perjorative names. The use of such terms as insane, crazy, moron, Nazi, facist, etc., have no place nor purpose in reasoned conversation or debate. Most especially when the one using them is either ignorant of their meaning, or unqualified to render such a diagnosis.

there is a good economic reason for your observation. young people tend to be debtors and older people tend to have some savings built up and to have paid a few more bills over their lives. It changes your outlook somewhat I think. And as for me, just imagine how loony I must have been when I was 20!!!

I dont enjoy the things liberal get called around here sometimes (anti-American being high on the list of things that can piss me off) so I thought I was being rather tame.
