An adviser to Barack Obama who called Hillary Clinton a “monster” during an interview has resigned, apologizing for the remark amid pressure from the Clinton campaign.

Now thats change!

No doubt the teaching credentials required will involve mostly the number of credit hours taken in education classes. We already know that proficiency in the requesite area of study is optional.

More from Mrs Obama

Now we Americans are "down-right mean", "slothful", and a bunch of other stuff. Given her educational level I can assume that the lady is speaking her mind, ie...she knows what she is saying and means it. It sounds like she does not much care for America or Americans. Are we to presume that she will emulate the widow Arafat and reside quietly in France while First Lady or that we'll have the opportunity to hear more about how bad America is, on an on-going basis?

LA Times got Home schooling story wrong!

Turns out home schoolers are not threatened in California, to the no doubt dismay of the NEA. The LA Times got things messed up and the story snowballed out of control.

Apparently they're all writing based upon the original LA Times story. The Ace of Spades link seems to have the best info. from what I can tell. Tomorrow's paper will have it straightened out in any event. (it will, won't it?) (g)

"Real Change"

"From the world that fails to the world that works" is the title of Newt Gingrich's new book. The AEI web-site has this description of the book:

In this no-holds-barred assessment of American politics, Gingrich approaches our nation's problems with a private-sector mentality and an entrepreneurial spirit, offering commonsense solutions for the issues of today and the challenges of tomorrow.

He lambasts both parties for creating a "government of the bureaucrats, by the consultants, and for the special interests" and busts the myth that voters are entrenched in a "red state" vs. "blue state" mentality. Gingrich exposes the truth: Americans are united on almost every important issue. It's the politicians who drag us into partisan bickering and away from real change.

Ask the American people if:

they support drilling for oil off America's coasts--73 percent say yes.
they want "one nation under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance--88 percent say yes.
they support making English the official language--87 percent say yes.
they support the option of a single income tax rate for everyone--71 percent say yes.
Americans are talking; the government just isn't listening--but Newt Gingrich is

Hmmm, sounds like you could have the makings of a political party there, to me!

Sway...yeah...but when you read through the "Ace" links you find that you still have to jump thorugh hoops to home school in California and that the standard Calvert schoold typoe correspondence courses many sailors use may not be acceptable for use at home. Pretty intrusive! There is certainly a state interest in seeing that all children get the right education to become good citizens but simple grade level testing should be sufficient to insure that that is happening with a given child...rather than a set of hoops and arbitrary local standards parents must jump through or meet.
