As usual Mr. Impervious is arguing with himself alone. I, and a goodly number of conservatives present here, have repeatedly stated that I am a conservative first and only a Republican to the extent that the Republican party represents conservatve values. Cam and PB have said much the same thing and ChucklesR has made much the same point regarding his lack of party affiliation.
So your assignation of our party doing such and such, and your desire for us to defend what we clearly condemn is clearly inappropriate if not obvious to the unencumbered mind. We've already stated our dissatisfaction with Senator McCain yet, it surprises no one, you will ascribe him to be our canidate. I suggest you let us worry about our canidate and you can then concentrate on defending your avowed canidate. He's gonna need the help.
I may even vote for Bob Barr, fully realizing that I'm wasting my vote. I'm more than about half way convinced that the country needs an Obama presidency, just like it did a Carter presidency. After it's demise we can then sweep out not only the Dem's but the liberal and moderate Republicans. "Kinder, gentler" and "compassionate" conservatism have gotten us nowhere and are merely code words for, no strong principles. Winning without change is no win. Reagan did that and Bush squandered it's legacy. That Bill clinton had to govern as a moderate to conservative president is only a testimony to the sea-change that took place in American politics under Reagan. That the country remains in large part moderately conservative should cause concern in the Obama camp and prepare the left for only a short, if any, resurgence.

Sck, calculate if you would the actual effect of said tax increase (i.e., reduce the revenue by the actual amount of dollars recieved due only to the tax increase).
Now tell me why your idea is absolutely BS.
If that money had remained in the hands of folks that build the economy instead of actually spend the money on CRAP it would have grown even more.
go on, do the math - or do you want me to do it for you?
oh never mind, you'll just twist it around so much even a democrat won't understand.
An excellent link, Chuck. I can only dread seeing how sck5 will interpret that one. To paraphrase an old saying, distortions will be made.
Don't they say the best indicator of future behavior is past behavior? With that in mind I expect the response will be something like:
"well you guys still haven't explained why everything was peachy while Clinton led the way to a balanced budget."
Thanks for the link ChucklesR. I remember seeing one of you guys address this earlier with talk of the "peace dividend". You guys aren't playing fair when you support your positions with evidence.

I agree with this, I have definitely seen these guys disagree with the Republican party on occasion, even over some core issues to the party. Mostly I have seen them go after the Republicans on financial matters, the conservatives here are obviously not happy about all their money being flushed down the toilet whether it's Democrats trying to spend it or Republicans.
I'm far away from Republicans on a lot of issues, and even further away from Democrats. I can't even call myself an Independent anymore because that television populist Lou Dobbs has stolen the term and I wouldn't want to be mistaken for his "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more" crowd.
I'm just going to keep being the party of ME.
