In the spirit of international comity, perhaps Commander Cod would like to compare President Bush to Prime Minister Jose Socrates who, along with the socialist party, has managed to keep Portugal's economy under tight rein, growing at less than 2% GDP per year? This is understandable as Giu is apparently the only one in portugal who does not work for the government. (g) And he doesn't exactly work in Portugal either, he just pays taxes there!

Ahh our prime minister is comical and funny..but not as funny as your president....even Lewis Black has a hard time coming up with material as funny as GWB....

Socrates is a doofus...and everyone knows...and recognizes it....

By the way.. 2% is still above zero......

Yep, McCain mixed up the Sunni's and the Shia. Obama thinks there's 60 states (the 57 he's already visited, plus one more to go, plus alaska and hawaii that his staff can't justify going to), and he also claims to have an uncle who liberated Auschwitz. Trouble is that his mother was an only child, and the Russians liberated Auschwitz. Perhaps his fathers older brother flew from Africa to join the Russian's in their fight against the Nazi's. Perhaps not.

At one time in my life, I thought I had a handle on the meaning of the word "service.” "It's the act of doing things for other people.”
Then I heard these terms which reference the word SERVICE:
Internal Revenue Service
Postal Service
Telephone Service
Civil Service
City & County Public Service
Customer Service
Service Stations
Then I became confused about the word "service." This is not what I thought "service" meant.
So today, I overheard two farmers talking, and one of them said he had hired a bull to “service" a few of his cows. BAM! It all came into perspective. Now I understand what all those "service" agencies are doing to us.

While we are finding humor in the pain that is our government:
Can you imagine working for this organization? It has less than 550
employees with the following statistics:

*29 have been accused of spousal abuse
*7 have been arrested for fraud
*19 have been accused of writing bad checks
*117 have bankrupted at least two businesses
*3 have been arrested for assault
*71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
*14 have been arrested on drug related charges
*8 have been arrested for shoplifting
*21 are current defendants in lawsuits
*In 1998 alone, 84 were stopped for drunk driving

Can you guess which organization this is?

Give up?

It's the 535 members of The United States Congress;
the same group that cranks the laws designed to
keep the rest of us in line.

Well, at least they're doing their part in testing out the new laws. Geez, a lot of those things on your permanent record would disqualify you from several careers. Good thing they have the legislature to fall back on.

Watching CNN tonight as Obama became the nominee (finally) was instructive.

Mixed thoughts about it.

McCain had a terrible speech, what was up with that ?

Clinton ... uhh .... ????????????????????????????????????????

Obama, nice speech, as usual.

CNN .. umm, aren't you supposed to at least give the APPEARANCE of being unbiased ? That's one of the things that struck me the most is the opinions not of the guests (it is a Democratic night, obviously), but the apparent bias of the whole CNN organization itself. You'd think the Democrats had already won the election, etc, and that the election was over. I mean we hear so much about Fox News being so "obviously biased", and then you sit and watch CNN and you don't think the exact same thing ?? When is the last time you watched a Republican talk on CNN as anything other than a response to what the Democrats are doing, as anything but a response to the Democratic nomination process, etc ? Ever seen a single Libertarian on CNN, even once ? For the past few months everyone outside the Democratic party has simply been a prop to expand further on the "Democratic story". Most stories seem to be about how Democrats are going to get over the Republican hurdle to win, or how something a Republican says is going to affect a Democratic win, etc, the bias is very obvious.

The Republicans I don't know what they are doing. It's like someone set a grenade off right in the middle of camp and people are walking around trying to figure out what happened. I don't think Republicans have any idea what they are doing at the moment - they don't like McCain, they don't like what's going on, basically just don't know what to do. Republicans seem to have no plan at the moment, at least in the near term, for how they are going to come out ahead.

And the Democrats, no idea there either. I watched Obama's excellent speech and kept thinking "Wow, what a great guy, really like him ... wish I agreed with the things he was saying". Health care, great, how are we going to pay for that exactly ? I think Democrats are going to be surprised after all of this to find out that about half the country still doesn't agree with them, and that even MORE people don't agree with them now that they've nominated a candidate that is even further away from the rural point of view than Republicans and Clinton are.

There is NO rural friendly candidate this year.

I thought that McCains speech was well thought out. He praised Clinton for what she had done, made a reference what she did for his three daughters and basically asked the 18 million that voted for her to vote for him.
