You guys are so making my day! I left to go sailing for a while and come back to find out that one of the best reasons to vote for McCain is that he might die.

Now THAT is enthusiasm. Here's hoping lots of conservatives think like you do!

I am curious about one thing sck5, what happens when Obama CAN'T turn water into wine? For though he has been hailed as the Second Coming, and the New Messiah, when you actually look at the record, instead of the words, he's just another mealy-mouthed politician.

Thought you'd like that SCK! Of course the greatest danger on the Obama side is that he might NOT die in office! That alone will get me out to vote!

When you look at his record and see all the "present" votes, makes me wonder "is this what leadership looks like?"

When you consider how liberals like to solve problems, all they need is a good talker

I look at things the way they are today, and the only change I want is less government spending. Now why would I bet that's not gonna happen?

Doh! Now Sck5 is going to remind us that the last time we had a balanced budget was under slick willy (and a republican legislature).

Nice to have you back John.

something tells me you guys dont much like democrats. Oh well. It builds character to have the party you dont like running things for a change. Believe me, I know. Good for the country too, actually. If one party gets in charge for too long they get complacent and lazy among other bad things. So, though I am not sure why you think Obama is the Messiah, here's to President Obama!!

(PS - It occurred to me it really is not a good idea to talk too much about Presidents dying - We have an unfortunate history in that department in the US - much better to get the bums out via elections dont you think?)

another ps to ers - I am told that voting present in the Illinois legislature is a parliamentary maneuver that preserves your right to bring up the issue again later (or something like that) so that it was often done when legislators knew they were going to lose so that they could have another whack at it later. Dont take my word for this, check it out here

Examining Obama's 'Present' Votes in Illinois : NPR

It seems that while voting present may be a copout sometimes, it usually means something else. But anybody who thinks this is going to be a major campaign issue is grasping at straws. A much bigger issue is a candidate promising a "hundred years" more of war or saying that having troops in Iraq longer "doesnt matter much". Good luck with that Republicans!!!!

Now I dont have to! Thanks so much! I guess you guys are learning how great the Dems were at running the country!

More seriously, there will be a real test over the next couple of years when the Dems have both the Executive and both houses of Congress. I would be surprised if they could outdo the Repubs record of irresponsible fiscal policy when they were in a similar position, but you never know. The one thing I would predict is that spending will keep on growing because there has NEVER been a pause in that department, only in whether or not taxes are collected to pay for it.

SCK...dying in office is a bit different than being killed in office. Just to be clear...that would be horriffic for the country in either case in my view. But let's face it... McCain had better pick a REAL VP...he is already showing signs of senility.

Well from the article you gave as evidence:

Quote:
After having put some thought into it, I don't think that Barack Obama was necessarily a coward for voting present on those bills...
So this guy had to think about it for a while and then finally decided it may not have been cowardly to vote present all those times. Okay, if you say so.
