Cam you are right - My parents are getting on and say they see in McCain what they see in themselves - and dont think that any of them should be president. McCain's pick for veep will probably be the single most important thing he does to win or lose this campaign. But he has a problem - If he picks a guy the conservatives will like then he will confirm what the Dems are saying about him being more of the same. He has a problem - It will be interesting to see how he deals with it - Obama has much less of a problem - there are any number of Dems who would help him get elected (but please God not Hillary)

I read it again and maybe you have more of a point than I thought. He was looking toward future elections even way back then. I guess you dont get to be where he is without one hell of a lot of advance planning.
Great speaker though - even does well in front of a green background!!

SCK...and his problem if he picks somebody really vibrant and articulant like Bobby Jindal is that he loses the "inexperience" card to play against Obama.
I'm hoping for Fred...they used to be buddies...he is a policy wonk and a TV star as well as being a real conservative. Plus...he is lazy enough for the VP job!

I think I'm voting for None of the Above. I think both major party candidates are only in for themselves, the country second.
One's a smooth talking snake-oil salesman, that can't deliver on what he promises, and the other's a doddering old man that wants to be liked by the media and intelligensia. From what I've seen, both share one over-riding principle, whatever is best for me. And they both believe more government (and whether you realize it or not, that means even less freedom) is the answer to every problem.
A Pox on both their houses.

Fred!! He reminds me of guys in college who used to eat quaaludes and think they were having fun. Maybe he is a real conservative but he will cement the repubs as the geriatric ticket. I certainly hope they pick him but what would happen if they BOTH died in office? President Pelosi!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the geriatric ticket. Just what we need, a youth ticket. I think the country had enough juvenile behavior with the last guy you got elected president. Obama needs somebody who appears capable of providing adult supervision. Dick Cheney would be perfect for him! Sam Nunn, the retired Senator from Georgia, rumoured to be on the short list would be a good choice but I doubt that either Obama or the party wants a strong on defense Veep.

Change We Can Count On
Higher taxes
More Government Regulation
Weaker Economy
New Protectionist trade policies, at the cost of the US consumer
Less Personal Freedom (see more Government Regulation)
Fighting Terrorism on American Soil, instead of in the MidEast
New Entitlement Programs, without fixing the ones already going broke
Amnesty for illegal aliens (also known as felons)
More government spending
Denial of the secret ballot to union members in orginizing drives
Yes, it is MY hope, that we don't get the change Obama promises.

jindal would be an interesting pick for the ethnicity issue alone---an indian/ American on the rep. ticket? a former hindu who converted to catholicism? real first name is Piyush. that will go over with the repub base, right?
hey the country has a real battle aheadfor pres. the dems will add sets in both houses, so even if mccain wins he has a long 4 years ahead of him. as does the country of course.

sway... i assume you are alluding to Clinton for juvenile behavior? you often answer a slam at the repubs with a comment about Clinton. as though he is the darling of all those who can't stand the bushites. that is hardly the case. I think he cost hillary the nomination---not that I am displeased by that. no, the man was not perfect and not even close to what I'd call a good pres. my opinion is that he's a very intelligent man who frittered away 8 years in the white house. but he did balance the budget, even produced surpluses( later looted by your boy the Decider.)and left a strong economy(later brought to ruin by the aforementioned Decider.) i don't think the country has any more desire for a third Clinton term than it does for a third Bush term.
both vp picks wilol be interesting!

Mitch,
I actually rarely refer to the boy President but I can appreciate your sensitivity on the matter. A minor point in civics might be in order though. The Congress balanced the budget and produced a surplus as the budget is a congressional manner. Likewise, the Congress spent that budget surplus through massive increases in domestic spending. You'll have noticed that I've made no references to which party was in control of Congress during each of those events. The question you have to ask yourself today is, with a military that is undersized and under-funded, which party and which candidate are likely to address that issue and which party and which candidate are proffering massive new increases in domestic spending? Let's just look at what each candidate advertises his candidacy as touting. Which one do you think is talking fiscal responsibility?
