Hey wind, here's another couple 0f candidates for your irony sweepstakes!

"I'm a uniter, not a divider"

"Mission accomplished"

"Get Osama dead or alive"

Hey, this really is sort of amusing. Who knows what will be next? Probably something completely ridiculous like saying we should stay at war in Iraq for a hundred years. Now THAT would be pretty funny

Funny how the only way you can make a point, is by taking things out of context. Try reading McCains ENTIRE quote. Without even going back and checking, I'll bet it doesn't say we should stay, and nothing else. You know, something like, if thats what it takes. Of course, you could always post the whole quote, and prove me wrong.

The WHOLE quote:
McCain interrupted with words that have haunted him ever since.
He said either "Maybe a 100," or "Make it 100."
McCain continued: "We've been in South Korea, we've been in Japan for 60 years. We've been in South Korea for 50 years or so. That'd be fine with me as long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed. Then it's fine with me. I would hope it would be fine with you if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where Al Qaeda is training, recruiting, equipping and motivating people every single day."

Cam

So McCain wants to stay until Americans are not being harmed or injured. And once that happens we can stay 100 years.

Whaaaaa?

And this passes for "good foreign policy" among you guys? And you think the comparison of Iraq (where most people hate us, want us out, and think it is OK to attack us) to Korea or Japan where none of those things is true is a valid one? Good luck with that!!!!! I hope you keep on with this nonsense because it will increase margin of victory for President Obama !!!

By the way, it doesnt sound like I took the quote out of context at all. He DOES want to stay 100 years according to the longer quote. To quote him "That'd be fine with me"

Not only DID you take it out of context, you ascribe a meaning to his words, that isn't there. The word WANT does not appear in the quote, even by implication. To say it does, as you did, not once, but twice, is intellectually dishonest. Must be some of that "change" we keep hearing about.

Good luck trying to claim McCain didnt mean that he is OK with staying in Iraq for 100 years!!!! Split hairs like Bill Clinton all you like but he clearly was OK with staying there for the rest of my life and my kids' lives and my grandkids' lives.

The reason you repubs are so upset about this is that anyone who speaks the English language knows when they hear this clip or read the whole transcript that McCain IS OK WITH STAYING THERE 100 YEARS !!!!

And that alone will lose him the election. I would be trying to walk it back too, if I were you.

Speaking of honesty, can you honestly content that McCain ISNT ok with staying there 100 years? Sounds to me like he is. Sure, he might have conditions, but the difference with Obama and most Dems is very very clear. We dont want to stay there for 100 years UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

THAT is a clear difference. THAT is one of the main things this election is about. Split hairs all you like but it is a bad issue for your guy, but it is actually good for us citizens to have a clear choice.

One guys thinks it is OK to stay

One guy thinks it is not OK and we should get out.

Very clear. Why not admit it?

I think McCain has taken a step or two into the middle from the far right.

Hey Sport!
What makes you think the Koreans and Japanese want us there?

I don't really want to rain on your parade of delusion but Obama isn't pulling us out of Iraq any sooner than Johnny Mac will be. Now that he has the nomination, the run to the center will begin as well as the espousal of actual governing policies. There will be no precipitous withdrawal from Iraq. Americans may not want to be in Iraq but they want to lose in Iraq even less.

The part of the campaign, post convention, where Obama starts ignoring those who nominated him is fast approaching. Watch for the new, more nuanced, approach to Iraq. I'm already prepared for the ensuing double-talk from the rock farms of upstate New York defending the great centrist.

Free,
McCain has never been on the far right. I'm on the far right, as you know it, and Johnny Mac is nothing but a career government employee to us. And he doesn't much care for us, either. His only hope is the center and an ample supply of clothes pins for those like me. He'll pander his way into any position, much like the other guy, the Ichabod looking one.
