Any one else noticing the political ads now when posting??
On the MoveOn Thread there was one that asked the question "Should Obama Talk to Leaders with Anti-US interests"... paraphrasing but the gist is there...
Maybe Sway is right, and probably I agree more than most - but money is politics... because the days are over where the train pulling in and a candidate for election is a special guest. These days, as long as the message is dropped to your pc ...
I'm hearing that deafening silence once again, you know, the one that is heard when a Democract is confronted with the FACTS.
do grades in college equate to common sense and judgement later in life????? given bush's job performance over the past 7+ years I would venture the answer is no. fyi-- I am am an independent.

maybe, maybe not, but Dem. boyz and gurls shure tried to make a lot of hay about it then, eh?
and for what its worth, "Dubya" kicked the golden gurl of the Dem's azz (Ann Richards) when "everyone" thought she was just plain unstoppable long before he ran for nat'l office.

Uh, actually yes they do. Just as SAT scores are a very good predictor of college performance, college performance is a pretty good predictor of life performance. One finds a paucity of college graduates in prisons.
Now, I'll part ways with that analysis in it's implication that the "smartest" man is always the best man for the job of President or other public office. As in most other areas of life, intelligence alone is hardly as good a predictor of success as is work ethic, morality, and personal habits and standards. As the lower ranked college graduate often becomes one of the most successful graduates in his career, the politician with clarity of vision and a clearly defined goal is often the most successful. He doesn't have to be a watchmaker to not only know what time it is but what needs to be done at that time. And George W. Bush is an excellent example of this. One does not have to be an expert in the supposed grievances of the Middle East to know that their holders are a threat requiring a response. The appropriate response to 9/11 was not to commission a study on the matter as we would, interminably, on such as social security policy.

sway--i don't buy your hypothesis at all about college grades being a predictor of success later in life. and your line about a paucity of college graduates in prisons totally is off the mark. as for Bush's intelligence,i offer two examples for his lack thereof-- #1,taking his eye off Afghanistan and putting far too many eggs in his iraqi basket ( where Al Qaeda was NOT at the time if you care to remember, And #2 is nominating harriet Meiers for the Supreme court. there are a ton of others to pick from of course. as for your point about "the lower ranked college graduate often becomes one of the most successful graduates in his career" are you referring to McCain, who was 790th out of 795 in his Naval Academy class?
as for this statement of yours "the politician with clarity of vision and a clearly defined goal is often the most successful". does that refer to Bush perchance? he has exhibited precious little clarity of vision and certainly no defined goal in either Iraq or in his GWOT. I have been asking you and the other Bush apologists for those exact items for weeks now and note the lack of responses (satisfying or otherwise) other tha invade Iran or at least lob some cruise missiles at them.

Prior to 9/11, the radical islamic terrorists attacked at times and places of their choosing. Post 9/11, the arena has been placed in their own backyard. What ever one's views on Bush's management of the War on Terror, that is not an insignificant accomplishment. And if the current progress in Iraq is continued, we will have taken a large step to neutralizing the ability of the terrorist to attack at all.

What part of that success does Mitch wish to argue about?

Good news in the McCain camp. McCain has admitted his weakness on economics. In the tradition of other "stupid" candidates he has, in an area of weakness, hired an expert. Phil Gramm, otherwise known as Big Dick to his liberal conquests, has signed on as McCain's economics advisor and is the presumed Treasury Secretary in the McCain administration. Very good news to conservatives and anyone else with two thin dimes they wish to keep rubbing together.
A few years ago Dick Armey was challenged by a former pro football player (Steve Largent?) for his congressional seat in Oklahoma. The reason given for the football player's challenge to Armey was that Largent was younger and had an appealing macho image in this famously football crazy state. Anyway, I recall hearing some stand-up comedian ridicule the Armey's challenger, rhetorically asking the audience: "How do you out-macho a guy whose name is Dick Armey?"

that article only mentions Phil Gramm. Or did I miss the Big Dick mention? yes, gramm knows something about economics. it's spelled Enron. what about carly fio-what's her face? better known as she who ruined hp?
