Millions marched against it?
Where was I? where was the newspaper article on that? MILLIONS?
I must have missed that one.

Poopdeck, he said congress, not the senate - 126 dem's did vote against it in the house version.

Well Chuckles, I'm sure they marched in their mind, even if not in person.

Last I knew, people in other countries didn't set US policy. Plus, you might want to go back and add up the US crowd size estimates.

Of course, it would even be more instructive, to reassess the situation in Iraq today, rather than worrying about what it was in 2003.

And then, as long as we're dealing with public opinion as the be all and end all. I would think in light of 74% and 59% approval for offshore and ANWR drilling, that we should move forward immediately on those issues. Right?

Sck5, Those protests are the biggest reason I count the Dems out when it comes to terrorism. They surveyed some of the local protesters in Orlando at the time. The responces were along the lines of "We shouldn't make war on Iran." and "We're already losing in Afganistan". When you add that the Iraq war hadn't even started and they were protesting and claiming we would lose, the democrats surrendered any athority to make statements on the war.

I was against going in, but didn't protest for alot of reasons. My objections are mostly philosophical, but since then, there has been a steady stream of crap and fiction spouted as facts by the dems. Not the least was the way they treated general Petraeus in front of congress.

The fact that a bunch of old hippies and wanna-be hippies headed for the streets to protest a war that hadn't even been declared is not helping your cause. They didn't wait till the decision by congress. A whole slew starteed on sept 12th and more and more joined in as time went by. More then a few of the current protesters are not only insulting to the troops but are an embarresment to they're own children's voluntary sacrifice.

These are alot of the same people who protested the original gulf war, the one that we fought to liberate an ally who had been invaded. They're pretty much against even the hint of us using the military for anything other then putting poor people through college or allowing blacks a place they can get ahead.

Outside of liberal circles, no one thinks the dems are even the least bit aware of what the army can and can not do. Nor would the democrats ever consede the reteric even if Al-quada amitted defeat and surrendered.

Why isn't Obama doing better against McCain ... I think that's the question of the month.

Who said the euros set policy? The question posed was whether there was anyone who figured out the lack of WMD's beforehand (answer - yes, literally millions figured it out including more than 120 Dems in congress) and the second question posed was whether there really were millions marching (yes, there were and I gave the links).

DanJ

You are mistaken if you take quotes from "some local protesters in Orlando" as speaking for the Democratic party. FYI the real Dems and the guys we elect
supported the war in Afghanistan and criticized the invasion of Iraq for (among other reasons) causing us to let Osama get away when troops and other assets were pulled from Afghan. and sent to Iraq.

It wasnt old hippies protesting though Repubs like to imagine so. My wife and I were there and found that the average age of the people around us was somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 or 50 with lots of grandmas and grandpas and people with kids in strollers, etc. It was certainly NOT a bunch of dirty hippies though they are far more fun to take pictures of than fat boring middle aged people.

And you are just smearing Dems when you claim they know nothing about the military. Ask yourself why the Dems have so many military people running for Congress. If you dont know who they are, check a few of them out - Jim Webb, Tester, Sestak, the list goes on and includes some of the most decorated and highest ranking soldiers around. You are confusing disagreement over the orders the administration gave to the army with support for the army itself. Not the same thing at all.

As for my own opinion ( a liberal dem) I think we should send the marines and as much of the army as it takes to get Osama wherever he is and if anyone complains about it tell them to shove it up their ass because we are in hot pursuit of a murderer who killed 3000 Americans. Repubs on this thread have disagreed because they are afraid the Pakistanis would get mad at us, but my view is quite common among liberals. We think Bush took his eye off the ball and let Osama get away with what he did.

I don't think either Osama or Obama are going to do very well against McCain. (g)

The protests across the US drew at best several hundred thousand unless you are using the "workers of the world estimates". They had to dig deep to come up with that many bodies for the count. I particularly liked this incident!

"In Florida a small number of protesters staged a naked protest on Palm Beach. They initially had some problems getting permission for the action, but on the Thursday before, a U.S. District court ruled that the planned nude protest was legal at the public beach. Most of the attendees had come from the four-day Mid-Winter Naturist Festival that was taking place at the same time"

I wonder if they were protesting the war or simply the wearing of body armour!
