Heck SCK,
1. Smart don't mean common sense, heck I'm pretty smart and have no common sense
2. ANYBODY will get us out of Iraq eventually, even me.
3. Hillary wanted to reform health care before oboy was even a state senator, I'd love to reform my health care (and it's FREE to me).
4. Duh, he's a tree hugger - vote the green party, not dem, I care more about my environment, I want it warmer so we get more bikini days.
5. Distributing tickets to a media event in Germany is not clearly anything but a publicity stunt and means nothing about being able to lead them.
6. you trust, means nothing buddy, nothing. I trust him to pick judges picked for him by his special interest just like any and every other president since Geo. Washington
It's not that I don't like your reasons. They don't add up to why to vote for someone to be president of anything but a glee club.
How about picking the guy who has less of his head up his butt as a critera.

What, no comment on the Cohen article sck5?
Now then, just a couple of points ....
1.) With current entitlement programs running out of funds, how do you propose adding another massive one will do anything for the national debt, besides raise it even higher? The debt being something you have quite clearly stated such concern over? Of course you'll say, by raising taxes, so show me one federal program that was to be paid for by a raise in taxes, that actually was.
2.) World leaders will follow Obama? Now I can believe that you hope that is true, but there is nothing concrete on which to make such an assumption
And finally, as I have pointed out repeatedly, I am not a supporter of Bush. I support some of his policies, yes, but not all, or even most. Something Obama seems to do as well, if one judges his current position on FISA, faith-based initatives, and gun control, to name a few.

hey chuck
sure, smart doesnt mean common sense but it is still a good thing. There are plenty of smart Repubs so I wonder why they keep nominating ones that arent that bright - Bush is an ignoramus at best and McCain was near the bottom of his class and seems to goof up almost daily on his supposed area of strength (e.g. he thinks Iraq and Pakistan share a border, or that Petraeus is the Chair of the Joint Chiefs, etc. etc. A few goofs I understand but McCain is starting to worry me with the regularity of them)
2. I am not so sure ANYBODY would get us out of Iraq. I think lots of repubs would stay there as long as there is oil to be pumped. But even so, it makes a huge difference to this country and to the military whether we get out in 16 months or 16 years. I am going to vote for 16 months.
3. Just because Hillary proposed a crappy reform doesnt mean that all reforms are crappy. You may have good health insurance but most of us have problems with it. Not onlythat but we are paying them to hire people to give us a hard time.
4. Oh god, dont vote for Nader. he is an egomaniac nut case with no sense of humor at all. none.
5. OK, point taken, but they sure seem to like him and while it is our decision and not theirs it is a good thing if our allies WANT to follow us.
6. Sure, you are right. Maybe I just prefer his special interests to the religious fanatics who seem to be the Repubs special interest, at least when it comes to picking judges.
At the end it is ALL about opinions. Thats what elections are about. I look at my list and it is good enough for me. You dont. But you are still smart enough to own a sailboat so I will listen to you before I vote for my guy.

The answer to the first is easy. Get out of Iraq and there you have 10 billion a month to play with.
You are right that they may or may not follow Obama. But at least they SAY they like what he says and dont like the current administration's policies. People over here I think underestimate how much damage has been done to our international image and ability to lead because of Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, torturing captives to death, invading Iraq, pulling out of international treaties right and left, etc. etc. You may think all of those things were the right thing to do but they happened with a cost, part of which was that now we are widely disliked, even hated, by our former allies.

Chuck
I guess I should say you own TWO sailboats since you seem to have two of them connected together in the middle somehow. Why would anyone do a nutty thing like that to perfectly good boats?

sck5,
I read your response (actully two of them) where you were willing to bet on Obama winning. Is this for real?
If so do you own your boat outright, have a clear title? If so would you be willing to put the boat up as a bet under a written contract with an attorney holding signed titles and the winner takes all after the election?

Now sailking, I have just nominated you for president and you want to get lawyers involved? You sound like a lawyer yourself! Thats no crime but it makes me nervous. On the boats, yes I own them but so does my wife and she is opposed to betting them. I was thinking more along the lines of a few bucks for fun - Because you never know what will happen. I really do think Obama will win but elections can turn on funny things sometimes.......

Maybe intelligence is just a kind of adaptation or defense mechanism for people who can't make it through life any other way - kind of like blind people having really sensitive hearing.
