Obviously, since people aren't willing to take responsibility for their own eating habits, it is up to the Government to do so. It doesn't take a big leap of the imagination to see how government would legislate your choices under socialized medicine.

I think question isn't excepting each others morals as much as it is understanding what having morals means, if having any at all, which in many cases seems to be the problem. My morals where installed in me from the way my family raised me. That was the ability to know and understand the difference between right and wrong and to act accordingly. And yes religion, discipline and a good swift kick in the a** helped install them.
From this comes YOUR excepting the consequences of YOUR action based on YOUR morals. Of course you could now argue that ones morals should guide them to want to help others with poor judgment from lack of good morals. And you would be correct as long as you understand it's not the governments responsibility to force that decision upon me. This is actually where ones character comes into play.
Then comes the question that what has eroded the morals of this great country today. And here you have the difference of opinion between the Democrats and Republicans.

"We're from the guvmint. We know what's best for you!"
This is getting a little scary. You can choose abortion, but you can't choose a big mac.

You see Sailking1, when you start off by saying I have no morals, just because mine are different than yours ..
you pretty much close the door to debate
So no, I'm not going to bother.
Chuck,
I am not sure where you get that I was saying "you" had no morals. And apologize if you feel that was my intention. I was simply stating that people have different morals and there are some out there who do not. The post was not directed at any individual, but as a opinion of the discussion.
Didn't take it personally and responded (I thought) to the concept not the specific.
That, speaking still in general - is why there is no reconciling between dems and reps (and what leaves us indy's shaking our heads in dismay and our bellies with laughter) - the hard lines drawn by the established waste holes of our political parties and all the finger pointing and hyperbole tossed around.
If it wasn't so serious it would make good comedy.
The point I was trying to make is the difference in my morals and yours is not the issue. The issue arises when people with no morals get into trouble and the government enacts laws requiring others to compensate for them. That should be my decision to help based on my character not that of the government.
The debate between the Dem's and Rep's is inevitable because one believes in a socialist govt. the other doesn't.
Well, Bush signed into law this morning the Rescue the Mortgage Industry Bill. According to NPR, it will help as many as 400,000 people who can no longer afford their mortgages. Or to put it another way, you, the taxpayer, will now have less of your own money ..... AFTER YOU MAKE YOUR MORTGAGE PAYMENT ..... so that people who irresponsibly took out mortgages they couldn't afford don't have to suffer the consequenses of their actions.
Now, I'm sure some of you find that a rather cold and uncaring attitude. But, that's reality.

Let us not forget those us us who RENT and also get the privilege of paying for our fellow citizens mortgages now. Maybe someday we'll be able to find a great deal on a mortgage too!! I also enjoy bailing out banks who consider me not credit worthy enough for a mortgage!! And I just can't wait to help all the 47 million without health insurance too.
I am sure there will soon be a bailout for people in California that can't afford to eat do to lack of inexpensive fast food places available. Do to the rise in restaurant food prices they will not be able to afford their new mortgage payment received from the Mortgage Bailout Bill. Man, all these bills getting confusing.
As for the new mortgage bill, it will be a while before it effects my ability to buy foreclosed property cheap. If it has any effect at all. Stupid irresponsible people don't change with a Govt bill.
