Finally some common ground! Republicans and Democrats do dumb things with their penises. Do they reach across party lines?

Good point, Chuck. We're supposed to wink at the liberal infidelity because we're supposed to know that that family values stuff is just for the Bible-reading, gun-clutching, insular communities of rural America and is only trotted out by the likes of Mr. Edwards for the Peoria vote. Our cosmopolitan betters know that marital fidelity is a bygone relic of an unlamented age.
I will add that the courtship was of the current Mrs McCain was, in my view, unseemly in it's execution and timing. But I'm not at all sure that outright lying was involved.

Sway, your account of the ending of the first McCain marriage seems a bit off based on these reports. (Who's personality changed?) The wife John McCain callously left behind | Mail Online
Skeleton Closet - John McCain, The Dark Side
Seems that he came home from VN to find a disfigured, overweight woman who no longer appealed to him. So he played the field for a while, divorced wife #1 after a while and married cindy one month later. Convenient timing for him, huh? Perhaps a step beyond unseemly, too?To me McSame fits right in there with the Edwards mold. If you don't think outright lying was involved, what do you think happened in Johnny's mind?

Who knows what goes on between a wife and a husband, anything we might say would just be guessing. People split up for huge numbers of reasons. I don't know what this has to do with whether they support the fair tax or not, or if they are going to do something about the death tax, or social security, etc, and those are the issues that concern me. I couldn't care less about Edward's wife, or McCain's, so long as they didn't strangle them and bury them in the backyard or something.

windy - for a lot of people, character matters. The choices we make in life are illustrations of character.

Tossing out any further pretenses of objectivity...
I find McCain's past actions and Edward's more recent ones distasteful. While McCain did marry the woman that was the object of his affections, I repeat my thought that it was all rather unseemly.
At the present time though, I'm confronted with two candidates with long-standing marriages. One of the candidates has always honored his wife's wishes and pretty much kept her out of the political arena. Only a presidential run has brought her into prominence. Mrs McCain has heretofore lived in Arizona, electing to not follow her husband to Washington.
Mr. Edwards, on the other hand, has made his marriage and the stresses of his wife's cancer a major theme within his presidential primary campaign, apparently with his wife's approval. I'm having a bit of cognitive dissonance over his public persona of standing and sitting by his wife's side and bedside as she battles sickness and disease with the private person who managed to find time within those obligations to sire a child with another woman. And then lie about it. But, maybe that's just me.

Edwards is finished in politics, as if he had much of a future in it before he finally admitted the dalliance. You're beating a dead horse in this case. Both he and McCain have displayed a lack of character period as Bzeer succinctly points out. mcCain was a womanizer of long standing. Did he lie to someone during that time??? Seems prettry likely to me, but draw your own conclusions.

yea, but he did it too...
makes me ill...
to draw a dotted line that implies that what these two guys did just reminds me of what the ol man used to say (and your papa or mama said it too)
a) two wrongs don't make a right
b) i suppose if he jumped off a bridge, you'd do it too.
c) it ain't the same thing, dumbass.
just a couple of quotes and personal thoughts.
In his statement, he said, "It is inadequate to say to the people who believed in me that I am sorry, as it is inadequate to say to the people who love me that I am sorry.
"In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic. If you want to beat me up feel free. You cannot beat me up more than I have already beaten up myself. I have been stripped bare and will now work with everything I have to help my family and others who need my help."
You've been listening to Swaggert again, ain't ya...
sniff, bawl... repeat after me... "I have sinned against youuuuuuu...."
The National Enquirer first reported on the affair in October 2007, in the run-up to the Democratic primaries, and Edwards denied it.
"The story is false," he told reporters then. "It's completely untrue, ridiculous." He professed his love for his wife, who had an incurable form of cancer, saying, "I've been in love with the same woman for 30-plus years and as anybody who's been around us knows, she's an extraordinary human being, warm, loving, beautiful, sexy and as good a person as I have ever known. So the story's just false."
You lying SOB.
You profess your love for your wife, but its ok to boink another. Ok, I get it.
"I went from being a senator, a young senator to being considered for vice president, running for president, being a vice presidential candidate and becoming a national public figure. All of which fed a self-focus, an egotism, a narcissism that leads you to believe that you can do whatever you want. You're invincible. And there will be no consequences."
You self-centered egotistical twit. You got caught, and thats why you're sorry, ain't it bub.
"Edwards met her at a New York city bar in 2006. His political action committee later paid her $114,000 to produce campaign website documentaries despite her lack of experience. Edwards said the affair began during the campaign after she was hired. Hunter traveled with Edwards around the country and to Africa"
Oh, I get it now, as long as you love your wife, you can hire a split-tail with no experience as long as you can separate her from her lacy underpinnings. Great judgement, yup, you're qualified.
"When the National Enquirer first reported the alleged Edwards-Hunter affair last October 11, Edwards, his campaign staff and Hunter vociferously denounced the report.
"The story is false, it's completely untrue, it's ridiculous," Edwards told reporters then.
He repeated his denials just two weeks ago.
Edwards today admitted the National Enquirer was correct when it reported he had visited Hunter at the Beverly Hills Hilton last month. "
sorry?, hey, its just a tabloid, don't believe them, who ya gonna believe, me, or your lying eyes?
In 1999, when Edwards was a senator, he said of President Clinton and his affair with Monica Lewinsky:
"I think this president has shown a remarkable disrespect for his office, for the moral dimensions of leadership, for his friends, for his wife, for his precious daughter. It is breathtaking to me the level to which that disrespect has risen."
Its ok Johnny, you got great hair.
"I want to see our party lead on the great moral issues — yes, me a Democrat using that word — the great moral issues that face our country," Edwards tells the crowd. "If we want to live in a moral, honest just America and if we want to live in a moral and just world, we can't wait for somebody else to do it. We have to do it."
uh-yea, love the hair, got a great smile too... now, sit down and shut the eff up.
and while you're at it, tell me again how you feel my pain... in your 10,600 sq.ft home.
Edwards Home County's Largest
Lord knows I ain't perfect, just ask the cuban, she'll fill ya in on all of my faults and foibles. but... I ain't runnin' fer nuttin' either.
Right or wrong, I do hold these people that want to lead us to a higher standard.
When Mrs. Obama says "For the first time in my adult life"... I spin my head on its axis and say "What? "
When Sen. Obamas response for any clarification on a stance he can be pinned to is... " You haven't been listening to what I've been saying all along"
uh, yea, I have and I can't wrap my head around what you said yesterday vs. last week, I ain't as dumb as I look ya know. lucy, you got some es-plainin' to do.
When the voter registration process asks for something as simple as a state issued ID... not even a Drivers License, or a birth certificate, or even a darn bill in your name and someone sures saying its discriminatory,
I simply ask, well then, moron, prove to me that john q. public that wants to vote is a legal resident of this district, or any district, over the mandated age, and heres his ballot printed in 3 languages.
When my congressman gets elected and moves to another state, listing his mother-in-laws over 55 community as his residence, then, in response to claims he doesnt live here, rents a condo in the district this month after 15 years of home ownership in the other state... makes me think he knew all wasn't right in Mudville.
To me, its the blatant disregard and outright bullshite that is said with a smile, a pat on the back, and a wink that really chaps my bee-hind.

Rightly or wrongly, McCain was ending a marriage, and to my knowledge, has remained faithful for the past 30 years. To try to equate that with some guy just looking to get some strange booty, is at best, a stretch.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch .......
Now that Obama has caved into the Clintons, practically turning the convention over to them, one has to wonder how he will stand up to those who wish us ill. It certainly gives the appearance that Obama is, to be PC, backbone challenged.
And let us not forget, Obama is a man, who before the Iowa caucus' was only known for having given a speech and written a couple of autobiographies. To date, he has shown nothing, aside from political instinct, to occasion the thought that he is anything more than just another egotistical politician.
In his limited role in public office, he has not shown any ability, nor even desire, to lead. Nor has he made any effort that can be construed as bi-partisan. Yet, he tells us he will unite and lead us.
We are told he is the forefront of a new racial understanding, yet, he supports, not a color-blind society, but one of preferences, set-asides and quotas.
He is eager to exit a conflict that has become observably resolvable in our favor, while running off to further engage in one where success is not only more elusive, but of a lesser strategic value.
For sure, he is an attractive candidate, and says all the things people want to hear, but, this is an election, not a beauty pageant.

Maureen Dowd reveals why you can neither not read her columns nor not believe the levels to which politicians will sink. Set your coffee down, take small nibbles-not full bites-of your bagel, and read Mo Dowd on the Edwards affair. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/10/op...aqQ+EhffFwLGiQ
