One has to wonder if anyone has figured out yet, that if the Dems intend to raise taxes on the "rich", so as to give tax cuts to the not rich, that they are saying, that taxes are too high for most Americans.

Here's an excellent chart and analysis of tax revenues received from the rich and the rest of us.

Obama did not make a good showing at Saddleback Church in California over the weekend while McCain, by all lights, was quite good. Outside of scripted events Obama seems to fumble about and generally comes off as inexperienced. Some time after Labor Day that is going to begin to hurt him. He's going to need a lot of work before the first debate begins. The fact that world events continue apace does him no good as well. Supporters already are noting that his evolving positions on world events resemble those of the current president. "Change" is looking to have run it's course overtaken by reality.

According to the latest IRS data, the top 1% of American taxpayers already pay 40% of all income taxes -- the highest level in 40 years. The top 10% of income earners pay 71% of the taxes.

Can someone explain to me how much more the "rich" have to pay, before they are paying their "fair" share? Because that's the mantra I keep hearing from the Democrats, that the rich don't pay their fair share.

Just how are we to calculate what is a fair share? It certainly isn't because of what one gets back from the government, as that is inverse to the amount paid in. Nor can we cite the availability of government resources. So what is the magic formula for deciding what's fair?

Why should anyone pay a larger percentage of their income to the government than any other person? It's not like those who pay more get Luxury Boxes in the stadium of life, while those who pay less get stuck in the nosebleed section. So how is it "fair" that some pay a larger percentage than others?

I think this paragraph sums up why the election between Obama and McCain will be as close as previous elections:

Quote:
Any two generic nominees are likely to split the nation somewhere in half. Our fundamental attitudes about the world do not change simply because we're stuck with an incompetent president, a bad spot in the economy or a spiffy ad.

That can't be right Ray, Pelosi says we've been blessed by God to have Obama running.

Personally I don't feel the election is going to be that close. I've said this before and I think it's going to be decisive. I agree with the assessment that this is a very divided nation, and come election day the polls are going to be close but the election is not. Just my opinion!

By the way, I spoke to a client in Denver today who informed me that the city leaders are spending over 60mil to upgrade the Pepsi center. Primary reason - condition of bathrooms. They want a nice place for the Dem's to plant their @ss.

Given recent events, the real debate for the next presidential administration will be on how and where to increase defense spending. (we're gonna wish we'd done something about social security during the Bush administration when we could afford to.) Defense is still at a near historic low as a percentage of GDP and it's becoming painfully obvious that we need a larger military. The world is becoming a more dangerous place. There is not going to be another Cold War but there are going to be a lot of Hot Wars as we already see in the new century.

The peace dividend is gone-in fact, we've got some catching up to do from the Clinton's time out from history.

Like many elections, this one may well be won on issues that will be secondary to actual events over the next four years or so. Funny how we seem to elect peacetime presidents only to have them become wartime presidents of necessity.
