Speaking of journalism; what the hell is up with dissing cigar smokers by this association?
"A cigar-smoking Denver police sergeant, accompanied by a team of five other officers, first put his hands on Eslocker's neck, then twisted the producers arm behind him to put on handcuffs."
Smokers are automatically bad guys, don't ya know? It's the same mindset that brands black Republicans Uncle Toms, by those folks of the party of tolerance and diversity.
I thought back on the '06 election and tried to remember if any of the black GOP candidates that didn't win blamed their loss on racism, but couldn't recall where any had.

2) Please find my post where I have said I favor Obama. Such a post does not exist. What I have said is that we have 2 very Bad choices, and my preference is to vote for None of the Above. I have been critical of
both candidates and the campaigns they are running.
----
4) where's your sense of humor?
Mitch,
Take a second look and I think you'll find that I never said you favored Obama. I was merely commenting on your report from the convention.
I don't follow this thread closely enough to know who's on what base, politically speaking. Every now and then I pop in, and once in a great while I see a point that tickles me enough that I reply (I think this may be only my third or fourth post to this somewhat pointless, interminable thread). Like you, I'll vote how I'll vote this November, and I expect anyone else reading this thread will do the same irrespective of what you or I or the Pope posts to it. So whatever you do, don't take anything I say here too seriously much less personally.
And, hey, I have a pretty fair sense of humour (anybody remember Sapperwhite's "Dawn of Man" post?? ). But I've never been a great fan of ad hominem attacks. They may sound cute or clever at first, but they tend to backfire because they have an uncanny and uncomfortable way of reminding folks of the schoolyard bully.
That said, I stand by my previous musing: I think it's a particularly unwise strategy to play word games with candidates' names. I doubt you'll hear a similar response from the opposition, but more than likely there are quite a few undecided voters out there who are taking mental notes.
Let me preface this post by saying this is a serious question, asked without sarcasm or any sense of "gotcha". It's something I can't really get a handle on, and so I ask.
How does a moderate pick a candidate to vote for? How does one choose a candidate when they have no hard and fast positions? How can one have convictions, if they don't lead to conclusions?

PB--your post is confusing. Are you saying moderates have no hard and fast positions? If so, not true at all. How do I choose between these two individuals?? Look for the one I find the least obnoxious (in terms of my personal political beliefs and personal values), and the one more likely to lead the country--not just one political faction. And then hold my nose and pull the lever (so to speak these days.)
Or write-in "none of the above". That actually is my preference.
And I find it amusing that so many of you haven't a clue about what makes a moderate tick. I await the usual pedantic observations about this topic.

Hell, Mitch! Vote for none of the above or maybe don't vote at all. I'm sure the protest vote will be noted within the corridors of power.
I'm sure we can count on you to explain the inner workings of the moderate mind, that is, after you've defined what exactly a moderate is. All merely mortal pedants await the enlightenment. (g)

John--you certainly did say
"It continues to surprise me that those favoring the nominee of the Democratic party (Barack Hussein Obama) would play word games with the Republican nominee's name. "
the play on Mcsidekick's name was totally mine. I stole the sidekick thing from Mark Warner's speech last night. He was drawing the contrast with McCain's ads that say he is a maverick. Warner said something like, "well, someone who votes 90 percent of the time with george Bush sounds more like a sidekick to me."
Thus, I was the only one playing with McSIdekick's name, no one at the convention last night. Sorry if it offended you. And if my joke keeps some independent from voting Democratic, they probably don't deserve to vote anyway.

I certainly did say that, but I wasn't referring to you specifically. I misunderstood your post and thought you were reporting a new slogan that came out of the convention. I didn't realize you had actually coined the phrase.
So I guess that makes you the schoolyard bully.
Just kidding of course, and no worries. Here's wishing you a continued speedy recovery and good health! All the best, - John
