I think the VEEP debate could be a factor if Palin wins or holds her own. While Palin may be a rookie to Bidens pro, everybody knows that Biden is a gaffe, just waiting to happen. Gonna be interesting to see how it shakes out, because it won't be a pretty picture for the Dems if Biden doesn't win.

So does Mo Dowd like Palin or not? Tough to really tell from this column, once you get past the obligatory sophisticated New Yorker swipes at the lands west of the Hudson.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/31/op...=2&oref=slogin

I actually finished reading the article with the thought, so what's wrong with that? I'm not sure that's the reaction for which Mo was looking. (g)

I think perhaps you're making some unfounded assumptions about the character of "Hillary people." Many women were behind Hillary for the same reason many African Americans are behind Obama: "She (He) is one of us." You won't find many of Obama's African American supporters admitting to it aloud, in public, but many Clinton supporters remain unabashedly clear that they were looking to see the ultimate "glass ceiling" shattered. If I'm right, and I believe I am, some number of those women may well shift their support to Gov. Palin. If McCain wins in November, and Palin does a credible job as V.P., she could well be up for the Prez nod in 2012. I can't say with any certainty yet, but she certainly appears more electable than Hillary Clinton. As for the abortion rights thing: I think that's like as not mostly a wash. I bet you'll find a not insignificant number of Clinton supporters were either neutral on the issue or supported her despite her positions those issues. As for "gun totin' NRA member": Don't look now, but the fastest growing segment of the gun-owning population is women .

When I read it yesterday, the first thing that came to mind was it was a snide back-handed swipe, without being overt. If you want real humor, read EJ Dionnes column for today.

Most assuredly not, Sway . Of course Ms. Dowd doesn't think much of Gov. Palin: The lady isn't "one of them."

Btw: Can you just imagine the outraged howls of "sexism" you'd hear from the "liberal" left if a "conservative" pundit had commented on a "liberal" female candidate in such a manner?

Well, that's the way I see it guys. One thing for sure, there will be daily polls from today forward and we can all take a look and see how she plays in Peoria.

Good news folks, the Government is getting in to the car building business.

"We're going to invest $15 billion a year in making highly efficient cars of the future right here in Ohio, right here in America," he said to loud cheers. He promised to help create plants to produce "windmills and solar panels and biofuels, right here in Ohio, creating millions of jobs that can't be exported." - Barack Obama

Not sure how the automakers feel about that, but I imagine the UAW is pretty happy.

The daily Kos, the leading web-site of the Looney Left, is running with the story that Sarah Palin's child with Down syndrome is actually her daughter's child, based upon a photo embedded in the link below. This is what passes for "issues" and appropriate matters of discussion among the activist wing of the Democrat party. You'll be forgiven if you just cannot take these people seriously, as either adults or commentators.

For all you righties who accuse libs of hypocrisy, how is it you dont see any problem with Palin after McCain has been going on and on for months about Obama's lack of experience? You can like Palin all you want but it is hard to avoid the fact that she has a pretty thin resume - A clue to how thin it really is can be seen when the campaign cites her PTA experience as somehow contributing to her qualifications.

The PTA!!!!!

Personally, I find this pick insulting. There are quite a few Repubs who are obviously qualified to be Prez if it came to that. Even Cheney who I dislike intensely has qualifications and experience for the job. Palin doesnt and is so inexperienced in international affairs she only got a passport last year and still hasnt faced any real questions in that area. They picked her because she is a woman and because she has hard right views (insofar as we know what they are). I wish the Repubs would put the country first and ask themselves who would be best qualified (or even minimally qualified) to be president if McCain keels over - which he might, you know, he is old enough that it could well happen.

Sailaway you need to get your facts straight. Daily Kos isnt "running with" that story. The story is what they call a "diary" which means ANYONE (even you) who wants to post one can go on Daily Kos and do it. There is no (zero, none) editorial review of diaries. It is a completely free speech zone where anyone can post anything they like.

So, you have found one kook willing to write a nutty diary on a blog. The right wing (in fact every wing) has a few kooks.

I kind of liked this one though, it is worthy of those tabloids at the supermarket checkout. "Palin daughter love child!!!!!!"

Next thing you know they will discover the child is spawn of an alien invasion!!!

Dont be too gullible my friend.
