One thing I know is that kids do stupid things that they know are wrong regardless of their upbringing. I don't blame the parents for such misjudgements whether they are Dems or Reps...unless the parents try to blame the kids "friends" and "bad influences" instead of holding the kid accountable. At the end of the day...I don't think this or the decision to have the baby and get married will have much influence on the election. Unfotunately, it will have a big impact on Bristol and the daddy and they will miss a lot in life.
As to the "troopergate"... the whole story was well known when she was vetted to McCain and in the public domain in Alaska and the public there continues to give her 80-90% approval ratings. This is simply desperate dems clutching at straws and trying to knock down a VP choice that changes the dynamic of the entire election.

rtclt - If you mean Biden, he has been more than good enough to "barely hold" his seat. They love him in Delaware. He has been chair or ranking member of the Foreign relations committee for years - nobody seriously doubts his competence. As I said about Cheney, even if you hate him you have to admit he has qualifications.

As for Obama and McCain, if you want 4 more years with a guy who voted with Bush more than 90% of the time then go ahead and vote for him. But you will be in the minority

I was referring to Biden. He’s way more qualified for the job than Obama. That still doesn't make him the best. Being on a committee doesn't make him better either. His political success didn’t take him far past Delaware did it? He’s on some committees and votes how Nancy and Harry tell him to vote . . . just like Obama does. I’m glad Obama chose Biden. I would have liked it even better if he had chosen Edwards.

Obama only voted against his party ONCE . . . . . . . when the party voted with the Republicans. McCain has voted plenty of times with the dems. Much more than they have voted with the Republicans. Bad argument.

Hmmm...wasn't there a horror movie made in the '50's of a UFO crashing into Alaska. So with a little imagination, that would make Palin the alien's love child..

Hey what's that Daily Kos web site? I feel a post coming on....

Seriously, this is a tight election. Everyone should bookmark this non partisan site for daily poll results.

ebs...an abstinence advocate does not condone children having sex, other people's or their own. That's quite a bit different than what you said, perhaps hastily. I think she is exhibiting the best parenting skills she can rather than choosing the politically expedient, and private, way of removing this issue, ie...abortion. It is yet another measure of Mrs Palin and her daughter's characters that we even know of this matter. the liberal way woul;d be to quietly have the abortion and "not ruin your life and my political career". Character is what you do when no one is looking.

Biden has been reliably wrong on not only almost every war, dating back to the Cold War where he was part of the crowd bemoaning Reagan's unwillingness to accommodate the Soviets, but he's likewise been wrong in most of the details in foreign relations as well. Where is the Biden plan to partition Iraq into three groups. Where's his opposition to the surge? Where's his criticism of General Petraeus? Forgotten, that's where.

When you spent the latter half of the twentieth century fighting Pershing missiles in Europe, the strategic defense initiative, and advocating a nuclear freeze perhaps it's best to have a short memory and say that anybody, like the Cubs, can have a bad century. I'm sure we'll be hearing about all of the landmark legislation he has been responsible for during his Senate career, or maybe we won't.

Palin was just confirmed by ABC to have been a member of the Alaska Independence Party and to have attended their convention with her husband.

Among other things, they advocate the secession of Alaska from the Union and their motto is "Alaska First - Alaska Always". They are also opposed to any and all environmental regulations.

I wonder if McCain knew this before he picked her?

Like cam, I too am aware that kids do things their upbringing says are wrong. I know, because I'm guilty of it when I was young. The measure is found in what the parents do after the mistake. As I'm sure any of you who are parents realize.

There is already the taint of sexism on the Obama campaign, and though I don't think Obama had any active part in targeting Palin through her children, that his supporters have, will only make that perception of sexism more of a reality. In that sense, they do their candidate a disservice.

Rather than letting Governor Palin rise or fall on her own merits during the course of the next 2 months, which even Senator Obama seems to understand is right, the shrill howling of the Left against her nomination seems designed, in a very unAmerican way, to deny her that chance. Here again, I think they will find they do their candidate a disservice.

PTA, city council, mayor and governor. Looks more like the path of someone who entered politics, not as a profession, by as a means of service to their friends and neighbors. To attempt to dismiss or belittle those experiences, I think will prove to be yet another disservice to the Obama campaign.

I have a feeling, if McCain had any doubts about his choice, the cacophony from the Left has more than assured him he made the right choice.

just imagine the outcry on the right if the Dems had a candidate who advocated the breakup of the Union.

Thank God we dont have to worry about that - Dems believe in having all 50 states stay in the Union, apparently unlike the Republican ticket.

Here is a link to ABC's report of Palin's membership in a party advocating the breakup of the Union

Political Punch

I wonder if it is too late for them to pull her candidacy? I hope not but I wouldnt be surprised if she discovered she needed to spend more time with her family.
