The problem of Sarah Palin was immediately noted by Camille Paglia, a preeminent feminist, first class thinker, and strong Obama supporter. You can read about it here:
Sarah Palin: conservatives find the girl of their dreams - Times Online
As the New Republic article the Bzeer posted warned, Ms. Paglia seems a woman not to be trifled with. In Alaska you don't go up against the Murkowski political machine, it's just the way it is. Except Palin did so and waxed 'em. This is no neophyte.
Here's the part that grates on liberal ears. Palin is the epitome of what they admire, respect, and advocate for women. And, unlike most women, she has apparently been able to have it all with career and family. Even the die-hard feminists, the third wave-I believe, have stopped trumpeting the possibilities of having it all-sacrifices must be made. A certain member likes to toss around the word hypocrisy yet has failed to see it in the criticism of Palin. Amazingly the liberals are expressing concern over how Palin can do the job and raise children. Yet the Palin's, the husband of which sacrificed his long-standing job in the oil industry when his wife was appointed to the Oil Board-to avoid any conflict of interest, have had no trouble stating that the husband will be shouldering a good part of the load. Surely that action is part of the feminist and liberal canon.
Mrs Palin appears to be just what the Dem's avow as their goal for women; a woman who can and does do anything a man can do. The conservative part comes in where she doesn't need the government to help her do so but the goal is nevertheless familiar to Dems; they tout it all the time.
Now, as we gaze about the presidential field, we're struck by something remarkable. The only people who did not think Hillary was qualified to be president were a few of us conservatives. Most of the Democratic machine and Democrat primary voters found her well-qualified. Why? Did she absorb the skills and abilities necessary to the presidency by osmosis from Bill Clinton? And let's look at Hillary's "career". The only real job she's held has been as a lawyer at the Rose Law firm, a position that she was awarded when her husband became the Arkansas Attorney General, the knowledge of which is common in Arkansas. And she apparently did not do well in that job if those same Arkansans are to be believed. Basically she has achieved everything she has gotten as the "wife of Bill" which is hardly the feminist ideal now is it?
I'm not sure if Palin is a feminist, although she belongs to Feminists for Life, but real feminists are going to have a real problem picking on this girl. And, a word to the wise, they'd be smart to not attempt to do so. Despite how it seems, feminism is not synonymous with brainlessness. There are many women of all political stripes, some even disaffected Hillary voters, who are going to look at her biography and find much to admire. And many of those Hillary voters were very convinced that this was the year to break that last glass ceiling. You're going to see some "Palin Democrats" and that should worry both the women's libbers as well as the Democrat party as well. The last hyphenated Democrat descriptive to become part of the lexicon was Reagan Democrat and it took a long time for the Dems to wash themselves of that debacle, if they've done so yet.
And Houston, we have a little problem; if this woman gets elected vice president, just whom do you think will be the presumptive front-runner in '12 or '16? It's unlikely to be Hillary and highly unlikely to even be a Democrat. while that is a long, long way off and the future is noting if not subject to wild change, the thought of a woman vice president seeking the presidency on the Republican ticket is enough to make James Carville weep and consider the advantages of early retirement.
The Dems are in trouble and, yeah, they know it. McCain, for all his weaknesses, has conducted a political masterstroke. Obama gives a very well received convention address in front of eighty thousand adoring supporters and you just get the feeling that this election is surely destined to be his own. As if by clockwork, the Democratic party gods whistle up a hurricane to arrive on opening day of the Republican convention. And not just any old hurricane but one pointed straight at the heart of New Orleans. You cannot ****** this any better if you had the power to try-from a Dem's point of view. Yet, what is everyone talking about? Sarah Palin. And that's trouble for Dems. Trouble right here in River City. 'T' that stands for trouble. And 'T' rhymes with 'P'. And we know what 'P' stands for, Palin.
Sleep well my liberal friends, I don't know how you're going to lay a hand on an honest woman. I'm sure you'll try but I'm giving you a little advise for free; try too hard and you'll think the Swift Boat campaign was the equivalent of floating paper boats down the creek.
