Wow...job well done! Lotsa zingers!!
"I might add that in small towns, we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening.
We tend to prefer candidates who don't talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco. "

Somebody wanted to hear what I thought
I thought she gave a good speech that most Republicans would just eat right up. It was hard to tell in a set piece speech like that how she would do in a press conference or on the campaign trail but we will see that in a few weeks.
One thing is for sure - She is trying to appeal to the Repub. base and not independents or Dems. She took a lot of cheap shots at Obama and Biden that are par for the course in a speech like that but which will piss off many (though not republicans of course).
It seems to me that she will do fairly well at the traditional role of VP as campaign hatchetman. What is less clear is how well she can put an end to the seemingly endless drip drip drip of stories coming out that seem to undermine the image they are trying to project. You guys may object that those stories are BS but that is beside the point - many of them arent entirely bogus and even if they are of questionable relevance it doesnt help to have them coming out seemingly daily.
Final observation - I watched the end part where her family came out and they are a very attractive bunch - and then McCain came out and looked really old compared to them. If their media boss has any sense he wont let scenes like that happen too often - It seemed to me that McCain doesnt look as good standing next to her as he does alone.
Of course, having said all that I am rooting for them all to completely screw up starting tomorrow since I sure as hell dont want 4 more years of a guy who voted with Bush more than 90% of the time.
Time to go to bed now.

I don't usually bother with the political conventions, but I've been intrigued by McCain's pick for V.P., so this time I made an exception. I must say I enjoyed both speeches: Both Gov. Palin's and Mr. Giuliani's.
Tho I'm no more fond of McCain than I was before tonight, I am impressed with his pick for V.P. And I'm less impressed than ever with Senator Obama.

"Cheap shots?" I think not. She tooks shots at them, true, but they were good shots, IMHO. I think "cheap shots" are more like questioning somebody's ability to lead just because they've "only" served on the PTA, as mayor of a no-name podunk somewhere in a back woods state, and Governor of that same state. I think "cheap shots" are questioning somebody's parenting abilities because their daughter went out and did what daughters all over the world sometimes do, regardless of their up-bringing. I think questioning a woman's ability to parent if they're running for V.P. a cheap shot, sexist and offensive.
Btw: I'm an independent.

You really will grab at literally anything, won't you?
sck5, your man hasn't actually done anything of consequence that wasn't something that furthered himself. Here comes a pair of people, each of whom has, and you've got nothing. That's gotta sting .
Did I mention I'm an independent?
Not a big fan of McCain. Probably won't vote for him. But if somebody was to put a gun to my head, telling me I had to choose McCain or Obama, I'd go with McCain & Palin w/o a second's hesitation.

Hey you asked what I thought. Dont expect you to agree with it. And no, I havent seen the talking points yet. The only influence on me for these was my 18 year old daughter.

PB, the notion that being mayor of a small town is experience enough to be the V.P. and next in line to the presidency is a legitimate claim to question, regardless of the answer. Asking it is not denigrating to small town mayors. I personally think her experience would serve her well in a leadership position in the Executive Branch - certainly much more so than the likes of Mike Brown, Julie Myers, and other Bush appointees.
I thought she delivered the speech very well. Reading through the transcript, though, there's not much on their agenda. She said nothing on the economy. Drill drill drill (did I actually hear them chanting?), nothing about reducing consumption. Maybe that's tomorrow.
And I still think she'll have to reword the community organizer remark - that was a cheap shot. Unintentional and obviously directed at Obama, I'm sure, but cheap.
