Serenity...some nice posts there today. We agree on much so you are obviously a man of superior intelligence and distinction! ...and Thank YOU for you service...Even if you do not hear it enough and live in an area where the military is not respected, there are Hundreds of Millions of both Dems and Reps who are thankful for the men and women serving our country.
Now for breakng news...the Gallup/USA poll is out on the USA today site and shows Mcain up now by TEN POINTS among likely voters!!!
"In the new poll, taken Friday through Sunday, McCain leads Obama by 54%-44% among those seen as most likely to vote. The survey of 1,022 adults, including 959 registered voters, has a margin of error of +/— 3 points for both samples."
Sck...despite the claims about Afghanistan "fortitude" among dems...they simply USE "what about Afghanistan" as a convenient ploy to attack Bush. They don't really care about Afghanistan. The American public is wise to that no matter WHAT they think of Bush and Iraq. It is quite apparent that the public as a whole believes McCain will keep them a lot safer than Obama. The constant linking of McCain to Bush is the obvious attempt to counter this but the public ain't buying it.
Barring some major news event...this election will be fought about the future...not the past. Who WILL keep us safe? Who will be better at fixing the economy? Who will get some needed stuff done? What direction should the country go in?
While the news from the weekend is good, I still think this will be very close and the debates should be interesting.

I chuckled at a recent commercial on television here from the Obama campaign. It had McCain standing there saying that quote about how he has voted with Republicans 90% of the time, or something like that, I don't remember the exact quote. The reason I laughed about it is that the Obama campaign was using that as proof that McCain was McSame, that is, the same as Bush ... but the funny thing about that quote was that it was taken out of context, and what McCain was actually trying to do when he said that was convince Republicans that he was actually one of them! Because McCain has taken so many positions that are opposed to conservations that Republicans weren't sure and needed convincing!

It is entirely honest to say it, particularly when we have documentary evidence that foreign governments (in fact our closest allies) thought we were making up the evidence.
Downing Street memo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Just because it has been repeated over and over and over that "everyone thought there were WMD's" doesnt make it true. In fact, why on earth do you think so many people were opposed to the Iraq war from the beginning? Do you really believe Dems dont want to defend the country from madmen with nukes?
Come now, we all ought to be able to respect each other more than THAT. I understand why you say what you do - The administration has repeated it many times and even I still dont like to think that our government is less than truthful. But the fact is that they blew it big time on this one, and many many people said so from the get go but were shouted down. The evidence is plain that many Dems didnt believe the administration - you can look up their speeches at the time if you doubt it but their votes show they put their money where their mouths were and were right to do it.

In related news....NBC has pulled the plug on the Laurel & Hardy show that was MSNBC's Matthews and Olberman serving as "news" anchors. The only slightly more objective David Gregory will take over and try to mop up the embarrassment that has been MSNBC. Turns out Imus was the only thing worth watching on the channel.

Serenity- Thank you for your service and your philisophical attitude. It disturbs me greatly to hear that you have had to put up with derogatory comments upon your return to the USA. I'm also upset that your daughter had to endure the prejudice and narrow mindedness of the liberal teaching staff at WWU. Although I am not surprised, having lived in WA for over 50 years, I am saddened that it has gotten so bad that a different veiwpoint is no longer permitted on our state college campus's anymore. No wonder we have some of the most ridiculous legislation in the nation, we are turning out sheep from our universities, rather than thinking, questioning, open minded young adults. Good for you for rescuing your daughter.
My oldest son lived in Bellingham for a while and rented a room in a house from what he called "The Protestors" (WWU students). They would go to any protest that happened to be within driving distance, didn't matter what it was about. I was at the house once and there was a bumper sticker on the refrigerator that said "Trees....once they are gone, they're gone forever". Cracked me up.

sck5 - yes, I do find it hard to accept (though I do if you say you did) your authorship, much as I would be skeptical of a recording that purported to be the Rolling Stones doing all 6 Brandenburg Concerto's. Or Sidney Sheldon being credited with writing War and Peace. That would require a talent on their part not displayed up till now. So you'll have to pardon me that I found it inconsistent in both style and tone with your previous posts. A feeling you reinforce by not even understanding my comment on colleges.

An excellent discourse on why Liberals keep managing to lose elections they should win. I've made the point previously, but Mr Cook makes the case in a fairly objective look at the subject.
FT.com / Columnists / Clive Crook - Democrats must learn some respect
And no, this isn't another Sarah Palin article, rather it's about middle class voters.

An aspect overlooked in the above post, is how most of the MSM still think McCain picked Palin primarily for her gender and a supposed reach out to Hillary voters. Her gender though, was merely a fortunate plus in the choice.
The primary objective was to energize the GOP base, which had been not simply unenthused, but dormant almost to the point of clinical death. With Palin holding down his flank, McCain was able to make a more centerist appeal to independents. Add in Palin's reformer creds (whether wholly true or not, they are very plausible) and it allows McCain to portray himself as the real reformer.
In retrospect, the pick was not only audacious, it was a no-brainer. Especially when contrasted with Obama's pick. Which brings us to some very juicy speculation. Will Biden still be on the ticket a month from now?
Of course, there's only one person to replace him with, but will Hillary go for it? The twists in this question are purely Machelvanian. Would she take the chance of not running again until 2016, or prefer a head to head with a probable Palin bid in 2012? Or to put it more bluntly, would she give up her ambitions to get Obama elected?
Who knows if that scenerio will happen. It is though an interesting one in a campaign already full of surprises.

Pb you are never at a loss for an insult when talking to a lib. It must make it much easier for you when every time a lib presents a well reasoned argument you simply dismiss it as plagiarism.
Given that, it is time for me to reveal myself. In reality I am Mick Jagger, and I take time out from classical piano playing to mess around on sailnet!

Well sck5, if you want to take it personal, you're certainly free to do so, though I made no accusations. Also, I most certainly did reply with more than an "insult".
After seeing the poll numbers this morning though, I can understand your angst. There's still a lot of time left though, so you shouldn't get too worried. Obama still has time to throw Biden under the bus with all the other bodies down there and pick Hillary.
