Something I read this morning, finally put into words something I had been thinking, but couldn't quite verbalize. Obama's message is basically we have to change the country, McCain's, that we have to change Washington
Where do you think the problem is? You, or DC?

MSNBC execs boot Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews from political night duties after network finishes dead last in the ratings during two weeks of political conventions.
It just goes to show you can only go so far ‘til the money matters.
TUrns out Bush ignored the Joint CHiefs, who all were against the urge. he instead followed the advice of the American enterprise Institute. So much for following the advice of the military on the ground--he cut them out too along with the JCS.
And speaking of Bush lies:
"The president announced the surge decision Jan. 10, 2007. Five more brigades would go to Baghdad; 4,000 Marines would head to Anbar province.fficeffice" />>>
The next morning, he went to Fort Benning, Ga., to address military personnel and their families. His decision had been opposed by Casey and Abizaid, his military commanders in Iraq. Pace and the Joint Chiefs, his top military advisers, had suggested a smaller increase, if any at all. Schoomaker, the Army chief, had made it clear that the five brigades didn't really exist under the Army's current policy of 12-month rotations. But on this morning, the president delivered his own version of history.>>
"The commanders on the ground in Iraq, people who I listen to -- by the way, that's what you want your commander-in-chief to do. You don't want decisions being made based upon politics or focus groups or political polls. You want your military decisions being made by military experts. They analyzed the plan, and they said to me and to the Iraqi government: 'This won't work unless we help them. There needs to be a bigger presence.' ">>
Bush went on, "And so our commanders looked at the plan and said, 'Mr. President, it's not going to work until -- unless we support -- provide more troops.' "
>Incidentally sway--these 5 brigades were considered the ARmy's strtegic reserve if another problem flared up in the world. Interesting reading.>

You would think that the many millions of die hard lefties would have been glued to MSNBC to listen to Olberman carry on about McCain or Bush or whoever else dares to be republican. Oh well, I guess sck's "majority of americans" don't watch the conventions.
Apparently there are 2 different "majorities". sck's majority that wants nothing to do with another repulican president, and the other majority that the polls show having a 10 point lead on Obama.
Mitch,
They were 'outmaneuvered and outranked' because, in a nut shell, they were WRONG. They were playing politics, not commanding.
Let's all keep in mind that JCS's are political appointee's and serve at the pleasure of the commander in chief, not the other way around.
Keep in mind also that Pace wasn't 'on the ground' in Iraq and was primarily concerned (as per the writer) with the PERSTEMPO (rotation of troops) and other political aspects that are NOT within his scope.
As a retired servicemember I'm here to tell you that PACE was the worst JCS we've had sitting in that chair in decades, frigging politician his whole career.
Hind sight is 20/20, let's keep in mind too that the surge worked and accomplished it's mission. Period.
Those 5 brigades were 'ready' brigades, not the only brigades, and they were replaced with 5 more brigades as the new standing ready brigades.
I'm tired of pansy assed folks saying our military is breaking, WWII saw YEARS of being away and fighting, I prefer to think our young soldiers are just as good as they were then. We break when THEY say they are breaking, hell I did a TWO year tour myself you pansies.

What we need is a Bush Sucks thread for those with a relentless, unending hatred of Bush. There we could discuss how he caused the Ice Age, was head of the Spanish Inquisition, burned Joan of Arc, and was responsible for the Soviet Gulags.
