We hear ad nauseam about the greed and misdeeds of Wall St, and how we will go after them. Not one word about their enablers in Congress.

The MSM isn't going to pick this up. It's much too important to find out whether Palin's husband got a DUI 22 years ago. There's just not enough air time left to cover unimportant stuff like this.

Why aren't they looking at dropping the 10% fed. tax on every piece of fishing equipment?
from Pub. 510. IRS.Gov...
Sport Fishing Equipment
A tax of 10% of the sale price is imposed on many articles of sport fishing equipment sold by
the manufacturer.
This includes any parts or accessories sold on or in connection with the sale of those articles.
Pay this tax with Form 720. No tax deposits are required.
Sport fishing equipment includes all the following items.
1. Fishing rods and poles (and component parts), fishing reels, fly fishing lines, and
other fishing lines not over 130 pounds test, fishing spears, spear guns, and spear
tips.

2. Items of terminal tackle, including leaders, lures, artificial baits, artificial flies, fishing hooks, bobbers, sinkers, snaps, drayles, and swivels (but not including natural bait or any item of terminal tackle designed for use and ordinarily used on fishing lines not described in (1))
3. The following items of fishing supplies and accessories: fish stringers, creels, bags, underbaskets, and other containers designed to hold fish, portable bait containers, fishingvests, landing nets, gaff hooks, fishing hook disgorgers, and dressing for fishing lines and artificial flies.
4. Fishing tip-ups and tilts.
5. Fishing rod belts, fishing rodholders, fishing harnesses, fish fighting chairs, fishing outriggers, and fishing downriggers.

(yea, I know it was part of the orginal bill, not part of the bailout plan).

The only thing I like about this bill is that it is, in fact, called a bill. Because that's what it is, a really big bill. I would have been okay with them calling it a screw too if they wanted, "Paulson and the Senate's most excellent Wall Street Mega-bailout and Tax payer Screw" has a righteous ring to it.

So is all this drama leading up to passing this "tax payer screw" considered foreplay then? I'm feeling a little frustrated.

No need to feel frustrated Ray, YOUR government is protecting you. They must have said that over a hundred times in the 20 minutes I listened to them pontificating about this latest fix. YOU the taxpayer WILL get a RETURN on YOUR investment.

So don't fret, don't worry, the very same people that helped get us here, will get us out. And then, yes, and then, they will make sure we never get here again. Because they are all wise and knowing.

Government as a profit-making venture, what a novel idea! And we've been messing about with those antiquated taxes all these years when government could have been making money all along. If government can actually make money, perhaps we should just put them in charge of everything and get rid of all those inefficient little things called businesses. Or have we done that already?

Truth in Government:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., pressed for passage, with the alarming news that one of the country's premier insurance companies was about to go bankrupt if the crisis was not quickly resolved.

"We don't have a lot of leeway on time," Reid told reporters in the Capitol. "One of the individuals in the caucus today talked about a major insurance company -- a major insurance company -- one with a name that everyone knows that's on the verge of going bankrupt. That's what this is all about."

He did not identify the insurance company, and later in the day Reid spokesman Jim Manley said the senator was speaking broadly and not referring to anything specific.
