Norway, Nova Scotia, I'm tellin' ya!

I'm not convinced Obama will be successful if he is elected, but I KNOW McCain won't be. He would have been good in the 90's, when Republicans were Republicans, but not with what we are going through as a country.
Where in the heck have you been? This has been a lesser of two evils debate since McCain won the nomination. Frankly, the only bright spot is Sarah Palin. Sure she needs some seasoning...it was a surprise she was tapped for the ticket so early in her career as governor. Yet her instincts are correct and she has a fundamentally sound set of principles. It took Reagan twenty years to reach the White House. If there is a conservative out there with what Palin brings to the table I'd sure like to know their name.

And why do you keep alluding to moving to some socialist paradise, don't you already live in one? (g)

Yes, but I would have to wear Birkenstocks and grow my hair long, no thanks.

And there ain't enough Lawry's in the world to make that platter anything more than the blue plate special to me. Sorry Guy, we just have to disagree on that one.

Is it possible to put an entire thread on "ignore" ?

I simply cannot believe that any of you can be supportive of any of the four arsewipes involved in this race.

I prayed to your God that he would make this thread go away.

My pray remains unanswered. Your God is not nice.

I'm gone.

Rural people hate this bailout. Rural people did not participate nearly as much in the real estate bubble, have far less exposure to these ARM loans, have fewer assets in 401k's and in the stock market, borrow less money for new cars and expensive homes, etc. Rural people know they are getting taken advantage of, that city people and city institutions are suddenly scrambling for cash so they are using the government to take rural people's savings away from them through higher taxes to pay for their own problems, problems they created for themselves.

There, that should generate some discussion.

Actually windy, it isn't just rural folks, it's anybody that acts responsibly, that are getting the shaft. Pretty soon, all those people that took out mortgages they couldn't afford, are going to get them "re-written" so they won't lose their home. Forget the fact they shouldn't have bought it in the first place. Now that they have it, they get to keep it. While all the folks that pay their bills, don't over spend and take responsibility for their actions, get to pay for it.

PB, you are exactly right. Knowing what I know now, I wish when we paid off the house I would had mortgaged it to buy the "big boat." kind of like getting the boat for 1/2 price.

Think about this also. Say there are 300,000,000 people that filed a tax return last year. Give each one of them $1,000,000. Withhold $500,000 for taxes and every tax payer gets $500,000. They can pay off mortgages and other credit debt, which gets rid of much of the toxic debt that's suppose to be a problem, put a whole lot of money back in play, and have money for big ticket purchases without using more credit. Total cost $150,000,000. Bailout cost $700,000,000,000.

Which do you think would have been more effective?

John...check that math...300 million times 1 million is 300 trillion..half of that is 150 trillion. Don't think we have that much to give away!
If you gave everyone $1000 it would be 300 billion. Witholding half would be 150 billion. Don't think 500 bucks a person will solve much...but I'd still rather give it to the people than the crooks.

On the William Ayers front...I think this is gonna get more interesting. The dems are trying to portray it as character assassination and saying Barack was 8 years old when Ayers did the bombings and that it is guilt by association.
The fact is that it IS about CHARACTER and the lack of it and the choices Obama makes in his friends and associates. Ayers was much more than "a guy in the neighborhood I knew". He is a close associate of Obama's in RECENT history as the Annenberg Papers prove AND Obama funneled Ayers lots of bucks from Annenberg Funds. Here's a piture of Ayers used to promote his book in 2001:

Obama wasn't 8 years old when THIS happened and that he chooses to associate with such an anti-american, unrepentant terrorist IS a major campaign issue no matter how much Obama tries to spin it.
