Oh, and there was nothing wrong with the economy until the Dems took over Congress
Granted, it was just waiting to happen, but the housing bubble wasn't the result of Bush policy.

Sck, the wealth redistribution is the 60% of the budget that goes out to things you didn't mention in the list of things taxes should be for - entitlements (welfare etc..).
Interesting.

I don't really know how people justify in their own minds "tax fairness" arguments. If it weren't some distant "rich people" and was, instead, your rich uncle Bob, how would you justify to him that you were going to take a bunch of his money and keep it, or that he was more responsible than you are for some public project ? Why is he more responsible, just because he has more money than you do ? How would you present that to him, exactly, that because you and the rest of the family got together and voted, he has to pitch in more than his fair share ? If it's such a patriotic act to pay taxes, why aren't we all paying the same as rich uncle Bob ? These fairness arguments disgust me, they are the worst kind of lies, and people try to dress it up like it's some kind of moral good when really it is just jealousy and outright theft. It's easy to spend other people's money.

You're right "tax fairness" is a bunch of BS. It's all a shell game they play to get elected. They spout off about tax cuts for the middle class and we're going to raise taxes on the rich at every election. They can get away with it because "rich" people are a minority. Politicains can afford to be without the "rich" vote. So they try to buy the votes of the middle class by promising a tax cut. Unfortunately a tax cut in politician speak is really a reduction in how much they are going to raise our taxes. Meanwhile, the rich, especially the super rich, are left with a high tax rate but have enough loopholes left behind to get out of paying any tax. Why would they leave loopholes? Because they need the political contributions of the rich, and especially the super rich. Just a shell game.

From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.
Karl Marx
"We want to take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people," Biden said in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."
Noting that wealthier Americans would indeed pay more, Biden said: "It's time to be patriotic ... time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut."

As usual, Dr Sowell goes right to the nub of the question.

PB,
I need peace of mind. Send some, or invite me to your boat for a week of quiet relaxation.
I'll bring my own Rum, canvas and my sewing awl. New ports are out of my budget if Obama wins.

Here's my bold prediction for the next Congress if Obama wins. First piece of legislation they will pass will be Card Check. First piece of regulation will be reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine.
