PB, so are you saying that those gay marriages performed by a justice of the peace are legal and what prop 8 in California does is make church weddings illegal?

if by "minorities" you are referring to gays, they have all the protections under the law they need. What additional "protections" can they get from marriage they don't already get from civil unions?
you didn't answer my question regarding whether churches and synagogs should be REQUIRED to marry gays?

The right or wrongs of homosexuality, really belong in their own thread. As the results Tuesday show, it's an issue that cuts across party lines, when applied to the traditional definition of marriage.
(Dawg - cosmetic surgery, which is basically what a sex change is, only alters the perception of gender, not the DNA which determines it. To have one's mate decide they aren't the person they claimed to be, would be a breach of trust. Which is the reef upon which most marriages flounder.)

The official ballot title language for Proposition 8 is "Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry." The entirety of the text to be added to the constitution is: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."
It isn't about granting, nor denying rights. It's about establishing a legal definition of marriage. Minus a legal definition, one can as easily posit a "right" to marry an animal, or inanimate object, as a person of the same sex.

sck - first you'll have to define "equal protection". Then, you'll have to explain what protections they are denied. You can't just feel they are denied rights, you have to explain just what rights they are being denied.
