ebs,
Conservatives are the rightful heirs to western liberal thought. Clear?

I'd add an addendum to the Beezer's fine post; the progressive left because his feelings were hurt. When your political discourse is based upon the sensations emanating from your nerve endings you're doomed to disappointment and hurt.

SA, NO. Conservatives cannot usurp liberalism because it suits their agruement at the time. Conservatives may feel they are the rightful heirs to western liberal thought but that then makes them liberal. "Progressive" left because for his own reasons but he is correct when he states that this forum is dominated by those on the right. I am going to keep pounding away at you guys until you understand what liberal means and stop defining liberal as anything you don't like. Beezer ruined an otherwise good post by trying to pigeonhole people as liberal and conservative.
As far as you addendum that is good advice why don't you try it sometime.

We do not have to usurp liberalism as we are classic liberalism's heirs. We, on the right, are the anti-statist party. We are the ones with the belief in the primacy of the individual. That the Libertarian party finds it's home within our ranks is not mere coincidence.

The definition of liberal you cite and progressives claim is one where reform and progress, at the expense of tradition, are held to be the superior goals. It is most noted for the suppression of individual rights to the goals and needs of the state. Liberal indeed.

A good portion of the problem in political discourse might be revealed here:

Wrong again Sail. Liberal is liberal. Conservatives are not heirs. They are trying to steal liberalism. Liberal means free, means protection of rights and the primacy of the individual. If you beleive in freedom and individual's rights you are a liberal. That's it that's all. The best definition I can come up with for conservative is confused and you're living breathing proof. There is a difference between right/left and conservative/liberal. Anti-statism is liberal - thought remember "free" and they are on the right.

"When ever liberals, (oh, that's right, they're progressives now) are unable to defend their position with reason, they resort to the line of primary defense, victimhood"

No no no. I resort to MASOCHISM. You can tell because I keep coming back to talk with the knuckledraggers on sailnet. They are sadly mistaken about politics and world affairs but they DO have the hottest VP candidate (and sailboats, which means they have at least SOME sense)

And here is a bonus for all of us. Hillary is going to be SOS!!!! That means we will have endless Clinton reporting for years to come!!! Arent you excited??!!?!?
