Urban voters even resent rural voters in Thailand ...
Quote:
The supporters of the alliance are largely middle-class citizens who say Thailand's electoral system is susceptible to vote-buying and argue that the rural majority — the Thaksin camp's political base — is not sophisticated enough to cast ballots responsibly.
They have proposed discarding the one-man, one-vote system in favor of appointing most legislators, fostering resentment among rural voters.
The divisions have slipped into deadly violence. So far, six people have been killed in bomb attacks, clashes with police and street battles between government opponents and supporters.

What the MSM see, and frightens them, about Palin, is a fresh, outside the box, articulate (as she showed by the end of the campaign) person, with the ability to rev up the GOP base. With poll numbers after the election showing 91% approval among Republicans and record Nielsen numbers whenever she appeared on TV, she has a leg up on 2012 ...... should she decide to run.
Should the next two years prove to be good ones for Alaska, and she runs for re-election (rather than for the Senate) and wins easily, then she'll be the de facto front runner. And, as another "historic" candidate, she has that cachet going for her as well.
Scoff if you want, but beating the most popular Dem in Alaska (Tony Knowles) for Governor says a lot about her ability to appeal to a broad segement of the population. Pair her up with one of the other rising stars in the GOP like Jindal or Cantor, and you could have a very potent combo. Particularly if things are still going badly in the economy by then.

Isn't that the spin that Obama got? He's going to save us all from bush, so they said. Change was coming, but what kind of change are we going to get? So far it doesn't look like a very radical change at all. He's not even going to change sec of defense. I'm glad that it doesn't look like Obama will be the radical that he was trying to be in the primaries, but time will tell.
See SCK it's all about spin. Obama was spun to be the "real" agent of change. Now Palin is being groomed to be the next "real" agent of change. If Obama fails, don't think for a minute that the MSM won't spin her as the newest "savior". The MSM first spun Palin as a dope (and many, like you bought it) now they'll let her shine just in case they need her to save us from their last savior.

The change is competence instead of ignorance and stupidity. Palin would be a return to ignorance and stupidity. We dems are hoping you guys will nominate her.
Please!!!! Make our day!!!!! 91% of repubs may like her but not very many others!

and it isnt spin that makes me think she's an idiot. it was watching her try to answer questions and failing miserably. There ARE competent and knowledgable republicans. She isnt one of them. (She DOES look hotter than most of the others though)

Careful sck, you're losing your cherished objectivity and open-mindedness there. You can claim that the Bush administration was ignorant and stupid all you want, based upon your impression of their actions. You cannot claim competence for the Obama administration because there is, and will not be, an Obama administration until 20 January 2009. There will be ample time to judge their competence then.
Your comments about Palin are just about what we'd expect out of you, and the mainstream media for that matter. A popular Republican governor is one thing; a popular minority Republican governor is every Democrat's worst nightmare. Make a bold move and man up; admit you're scared about a Palin candidacy! In four years the electorate will know her all that much better. Of course, you're betting that in four years the electorate will be so happy with the Obama administration that it won't matter whom the Republicans nominate. And, you might be correct, although I'd risk little money on it were I you.

Have you guys already covered Hillary's Constitutional ineligibility to serve as Secretary of State due to Article I, Section 6, Paragraph 2? Which basically says that no sitting Member of Congress can be appointed to an Executive Office for which they voted to increase the compensation during their term as a Member.

I have to say I'm impressed so far.
Usually the sure way to undo a political party is to give them everything they want so they can drown themselves with it, but so far Obama seems very level headed. He's made some really sharp appointments, brought a few of his enemies in close and gave them something to do, hasn't gone over the edge with any outrageous far-left craziness, I'm impressed. He even kept some good military people where they are, has moderated his position on a number of important issues, he's been really smart so far. If he keeps this up he might keep popular support for a while. Even his spending/stimulus package is tame, nobody ever argues against building roads and fixing bridges.
