Wind_magic,

sck5 couldn't be more clear. He doesn't want to give personal help and assistance. He wants taxes raised to fund welfare programs. Must be pretty close to loosing his job.

What a Saint. Has anyone here heard of Second Harvest? They can do the job 10 times more efficiently than Uncle Sam.

Why can't Democrats see that.

How mean spirited. Making fun of helping people who are in trouble through no fault of their own. No wonder your party is turning people off. Try having a little compassion. I am not about to lose my job but there are quite a few million people out there losing theirs. And it isnt because they are lazy. I learned that it is a good thing to help people in need. They didnt teach you that when you were a kid? I feel sorry for you.

Hey sck5,
Windy had it mostly right but if you still need a shove in the right direction, 'cause I just know you wanna do the right thing, that gal that just had octuplets, or whatever you call 'em, in California could use your help.

Seems that even though she lives with her Mom as a single mother of six kids, she needed to take fertility drugs so she could have eight more kids. She's going to need a lot of help raising those kids and it's difficult to see how the government is going to carry the load alone.

You are right about helping people in need. We used to do a lot of it through government programs in this country. What I cannot figure out is what happened to all those people in need after we ended welfare? Did they all die or just go to work?

I said "through no fault of their own".

And ending the welfare system as it used to exist was something that needed to happen. Where did all those people go? Fortunately, at the same time Clinton ended welfare, he also engineered the longest economic boom in history, complete with budget surpluses. So all those people went and got jobs as they should have.

What I am saying is that many of the current unemployed arent just lazy spongers. Sure we still have some them or at least wannabe spongers. But I know an increasing number who are unemployed through no fault of their own. And they arent sitting on their asses waiting for a handout either. Some of them are about to run out of unemployment and have taken to poaching deer to feed their families. Now much as I like the idea of killing the deer that keep trying to commit suicide by running in front of my car, I think those people could use some help. To make fun of them or pretend that they should just suck it up is not what I call neighborly.

I wouldn't make fun of them, nor would I feel sorry for them, instead it is people like this that gives one hope that not all is lost. Just like those in Kentucky are doing right now, they are doing what needs to be done to survive, because the Federal Government ( FEMA ) is a NO SHOW as of yesterday and they have been without power & water for 6 days and we're talking somewhere in the area of 700,000 people

.
1. We just explained that Clinton ended welfare the same way Bush put TARP in place- they happened to be in office and sign the law. Congress sends the bills up, the president, in both cases was forced to sign because a veto would not have been sustained.

2. See above, Clinton happened to be in office and benefited from the Republican led congress's tax cuts. His first 3 years in office were mediocre re: the economy because of his previous tax hike.
See the dozen previous posts with facts showing that, none of which you have ever refuted.

Continuing to spout crap doesn't make it true.

Either get the point, or go away.

take the sappy stuff to your own 'sappy stuff' thread.

I'm not able to say "them" when talking about people who have been laid off because I personally know people who are sitting at home right now, tonight, who have been laid off in the past two months. It's hitting rural areas hard, not as some faceless number on a press release, but instead as real people losing their jobs, people I know. Having watched the discussions of the stimulus in detail I haven't seen a thing yet that I think is going to actually help the people I know, not one single thing.

Can I say Hypocrisy on SN?

sck5,

How dumb can one be? No... intellectually dishonest. What I whinny little person. It's clear you don't do anything to help except point a crooked little finger and say yoooou're baaaaaad; you don't care like Iyeee doooo.

When someone suggests that Second Harvest (now called Feeding America) can help 10 times more efficiently than the welfare you yearn for; and then you say, "How mean spirited", it becomes clear, the only thing you care about is looking like you care, just like your Democrat leaders.

The fact that our money is spent much more effectively given to pros than to idiot demigods and bureaucrats, goes right over your head and that convinces me you are one or the other but certainly not of the producing and caring class.

You could at least have challenged my 10 times exaggeration. It's really only more like 8 times more efficient than your beloved welfare. Or you could have at least mentioned how really good the stimulus package will be. Nothing... just: "how mean spirited".

I'm not being mean... It's just that stupid people get in the way when s*** happens and that makes me mad.

Having said all that, have a nice day and kiss the kids for me.

WinderLust,

With Sck5 it's not about efficiency, it's about governments role as our sugar daddy.
Since it's the same as religion (defined as a system of beliefs) for him it doesn't have to make sense.
