To me, it looks like the government(obama) has declared econiomic martial law. And I am sort of ok with that, so long as, when the crisis is over the power is given back to the people. Can they stave off a depression? I don't know. But we are all going to find out whether we believe or not.
It reminds me of that scene in gladiator when the senator (Gracus) askes maximus "and when you have all the power of Rome, why would you give it back to the people?" The answer was, maximus had honor made of iron.
I just don't put Obama's honor in the same class as Maximus'.

Ah yes, the cycle of greed and ruin. The only thing to stop that is when the government rests upon the shoulders of One.

the Government is quite good at doing things like this.
Wait can anyone actually name a single time when they gave up any kinda power?

THe government has taken over many many insolvent banks over the years (including about 2/week so far in 2009) and hasnt held on to a single one over the long run. All are restructured and sold to private owners as soon as they can get rid of them because they dont want to be in the banking business.

somebody up the thread was believing their own propaganda about Dems and gun control. It aint gonna happen. As I have said various times in this forum, the Dems used to be for gun control and some of the urban ones still are but as a party the Dems lost their appetite for a losing issue a long time ago

I have an idea!...let's make it illegal for terrorist and criminals to buy guns!

It is strange to me that people that are pro abortion, also favor gun control.

That's because you see those as societal issues that both result in the death of someone. The people who believe in abortion and gun control see both as issues that harm and/or inconvenience them personally - if someone else has a gun it might hurt them personally, and if they are pregnant and have to carry a baby to term it might hurt them personally, the issue of whether it harms someone else or not doesn't even enter into it. I certainly can. There was the time they took over the whorehouse in Nevada and, after running it into the ground, closed it and walked away.

No, it's still there.

(This joke about the Nevada state capitol building is not meant to offend anyone in Nevada, it was just too easy to pass up!)

Wind magic- I completely agree, people want to get abortions because they are inconvienenced. You can tell what is right or wrong by taking it to higher limits. For example, is it ok to give $100 to a charity? Is it ok to give $10,000 to a charity? (Those are both clearly yes by the way)

Is it ok to kill a unborn baby because they have inconvienced you? (some people say yes) Is it ok to kill your 5 year old because they have inconvienced you? How about your 80 year old mom because she is getting too hard to take care of?
There is right and there is wrong. Sometimes it's harder to see, but it is ALWAYS there.
