Their only hope appears to get more people to go to church.

a worsening economy may get quite a few moderates to go "doh!, what was I thinking?"

Keep laughing.....congressmen will pay the price for events current, in 2010. And the economy will dominate all other events. So. How's that Obama economy lookin' to ya, right now?

That looks to be the case. Three polls out today indicate the public becoming increasingly concerned about the deficit.

Nearly seven in 10 have serious reservations about the federal government’s ownership stake in General Motors. Almost 60 percent say that President Obama and Congress should worry more about keeping the deficit down — even if that means it will take longer for the economy to recover.

Republican's aren't making up any ground yet but interestingly, Cheney is now viewed more favorably that Pelosi.
Quote:
* 26 percent view Dick Cheney favorably, which is up eight points from April
* 24 percent view Nancy Pelosi favorably, which is down seven points from April
* 25 percent hold a favorable view of the Republican Party, which is an all-time low for it in the poll
* 45 percent hold a favorable view of the Democratic Party.

Funny how less than 10 years ago, the debate over the future of the GOP, was the polar opposite of today. Then, it was the Dems in disarray and "out of touch" with "moderates", while the GOP had cemented it's ascendancy. It was unmindful of the cyclic nature of politics then, just as it is now.
As the GOP showed in the early part of this decade, words, when not matched by deeds, soon become a drag upon further electoral gains. Only 6 months in to the new Dem ascendancy, and we're already seeing similar signs. At this point, one has to wonder how long Bambi's personal popularity can overshadow the increasing disfavor with his policies.

I'm gonna laugh right up until the moment......which I admit can always happen. In fact, history shows that the opposition almost always gains in the midterms.
As to the economy, it certainly looks VASTLY better than it did during the last months of Bush. In fact, I have made at least 1/2 of my losses in the market back. And, as a bonus, it does not look like the entire country is rudderless and about to go down the drain. Sure, it will take years and maybe even a decade to do away with that crash, but it's mostly uphill (with bumps) from here.
I'm just glad we have someone at the helm who can understand most of what is going on. We all saw Bush come out with that fearful look on his face...in the fall...he simply did not know what to do!
Luckily for us, he let others take the helm...and some proper actions might have been taken. So give credit where it is due. They knew the ship was sinking and decided to bail.

yep, i think the g.o.p. is gasping for it's last breath. the sad thing is, there isn't another party for them to turn to. most republicans in office now are tainted with the sin of complacency. get'em gone. i've voted republican since '78' only because they are the lesser of the two evils. now is the time to start another conservative party that can guarantee maximum personal freedom with minimum government involvement. a party that can free us from the liberal death grip the socialist democrats currently have us in. a party that will institute the "fair tax", cut corporate taxes, and take care of our own first. a party that will defeat our enemies before they reach our soil. a party that is proud of the AMERICAN way of life. a party that won't interfere with free enterprise. a party that will enforce laws, not pick and choose who they prosecute. a party of accountability, not one of passing the buck. a party that will deal swiftly with unions as they have served their purpose and are no longer needed.
who's up for it?

close pud, but he's a little pussified. i'm afraid he's a little too isolationist to be a viable candidate. he also seems to lack the backbone to straighten out the problems we have in this country today. i also don't like our troops refered to as occupiers.
what about huckabee? he's got a lot of good ideas and could go a long way in our nations recovery. he was my choice for president last election. he's a supporter of the fair tax, believes in reducing the corporate tax rate, and takes a firm stance on immigration. is he corruptible? i don't think so, but i don't know where he stands on other issues, such as healthcare and abortion. although i disapprove of abortion, i feel it is the mothers decision, not the governments. it is also not the governments decision on the subject of gay marriage. i'll say this again: if you want to bite pillows in holy matrimony, have at it! just don't try to push it down my throat.
one thing is for certain: no one is going to like everything a candidate says or believes in. we must choose carefully. see what happens when we don't?

Huck would be great if he believed in separation of church and state.
But he doesn't.
And that will probably rule him out for the majority of Americans.
He is a heck of a nice guy, but it takes more than that.
