You cannot make anything a "right". Our rights are endowed by the Creator according to the Constitution. Government can only limit our rights or dictate how we exercise them. Using the term "right" to describe something that would otherwise be proscribed is a back door way of making it into a civil liberties issue.

Of course, the most prominent of these "rights" issues is the right to abortion. This serves to obscure what the real debate is about abortion. There is no question that any person has a right to have a medical procedure performed upon their body under the assurance of the Constitution that the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is endowed by the Creator on all mankind. The real issue is that a substantial portion of the American public view abortion as murder. The honest way to discuss the issue might be from a position that explores where murder is justifiable and not a "right".

If you have a right you should scream loud, long, and hard if it appears that government is about to take it away from you. And that is the fundamental purpose of the Constitution, by the way. But, if you're just trying to change the law as it exists, there's no rationale for couching it in terms of rights unless those rights have been specifically abridged. The pro-choice crowd objected to existing law, not an abridged right. The proper way to address that is through the law via legislatures. Turning it into a rights issue is why the issue continues to dog us today.

What does that have to do with liberals? Well, in my opinion, they're quite willing to twist the semantics, the meaning of words, and the meaning of the Constitution to serve the defined goal of the day. That they ignore the travesty done to the Constitution will not become apparent until you've actually lost real rights. Because that's what governments do; they take away your rights at every opportunity.

Valid point Sway. I was referring more to the point that the argue federal funding is necessary for the use of rights, if a person can't afford to avail themselves of it. Unless, of course, if it involves things like schools, right to work, etc.

They think a 5% increase instead of a 10% increase is a cut in funding.

By the way, how is it a bunch of conservatives know what liberals think? Are you mind readers too? Or just spying on law abiding citizens?

Now that Sarah knows who are enemies are, I am damn sure that you really don't want to see her in 2012...that is why she continues to be kicked, watch out! She'll come up swinging and landing the pain where it belongs.

Liberals are like seagulls: all they do is squawk, eat crap, and they are protected by the government.
