Pakistan is a failed state, it has no sovereign borders. It has no national government that extends over the whole land. The "tribal territories" are not under the control of the "national" government.

That's an interesting theory until you compare those nations that were part of the former British empire to those ruled by the non-English-speaking nations. Suddenly India looks pretty good. Pakistan is rather more functional than many other countries within the region. Compared to Yemen it's perhaps even cosmopolitan.

Back on topic, I expect to see many more conflicting messages sent by the neophyte President. Let's hope he's learned that one does not announce before hand one's intentions to send military force where no military force belongs or can be justified.
