your opinion on gays in the military
first my thread my rules not gay bashing, no gay marriage posts it is a military thread.
first i will say i am not a homophobic, but i was in the navy during clinton.
my opinion is gays show not be open, due to many reasons.
first reason is housing, most enlisted are in tight quarters with very little privacy, including open showers. what is different from a gay man taking a shower with a straight guy from a guy and a girl showering together... in my mind nothing. that means to stop any problems they will need at least 3 different housing ( probably 4 ) set ups, instead of 2.
two, the military is nuts over sexual harassment, if you say a woman has a nice butt and she hears it and is offended you can be tried for sexual harassment. how long till a gay goes nice butt for some one of the same sex and they are offended, and they want to press it, will the same rules apply? how long till if not separate quarters does it take for a homophobic to be in the shower has a gay come in to the shower and the straight guy attacks the gay, i know it wrong but it can happen, just over the shower reasons, its not like walking down the street and passing each other.
three, the UCMJ has sodomy as a crime, it covers both sexes by saying unnatural acts.
four, can you imagine a very openly gay guy, and i mean leather chaps type gay guy walking around base in his chaps. and it would be legal and i would bet it would happen just because he could
fifth, how long till some one does not get promoted and they blame it on sexual orientation. right now there is a huge disparity of promotions at least in the navy on woman over men
your opinions please

Have you ever noticed that the word "but" erases everything that came before it?
Like, "she is a really nice girl, BUT, damn she is ugly." or "I am not homophobic, BUT..."
Frankly, I figure if you have the balls to take up arms and defend your country, then I don't care what the hell else you do with them.

well it was not meant that way, what i was saying was i was in the navy when they changed dont ask dont tell so i did live with it. to me it was a i dont see it so i ignore it, i would have not liked showering with an openly gay guy, same way i would not like to shower with a woman, unless its just me and her and some kinky stuff is going on willingly, which it would not be with a gay guy.

I think ALL hetero sexuals should have to shower together and all homosexuals should have to shower together.

Damn right, Cam. If the person in the next bunk wants to sleep with you, that's going to be problematic, no matter what gender each of you is.
Just to make things clear, there are 5 (five) human genders, not just two. Male, female, and three types of hermaphrodite estimated at 1 per thousand in the general population, or some 300,000 hermaphrodites in the US in general. Multiply that out by the number of sexualities chosen by people, add transgendering, leave some bunks for the folks who prefer sheep or cattle...
Maybe the military should just require celibacy during service?

bljones the best way i can describe the military sexual harassment penalties would be to tell you to shower with Catherine zeta-jones and you have a grenade taped to your dick with the pin ready to fall out if you dick twitches.
and cam i like your idea

I think Chris Rock said it well. Gays in the military? Let 'em fight cause I ain't fighting. Call me the ****** cuz I'm too scared to fight. When it's all done I'll be the fag with 2 legs.
Please don't take offense, everyone on TV liked the joke.

I was in the Navy, knew some gays, had no problem with them whatsoever. Dunno what all the fuss is about.

So, what are you saying? That you would file a SH claim if a gay shipmate was in the shower stall next to you? Or do you think you are so gorgeous that no gay man would be able to resist you? Look, I am not trying to be a jerk here, I am just saying that much of the resistance to gays in the military is kinda immature and silly. Courage is courage, duty is duty, ability is ability, skill is skill, without regard to sex or sexual orientation. Personally, i'd rather have a gay man who has won the Wimbledon covering my ass than a straight guy wondering how soon he can run to Canada.
